Connected my MEP-803A the proper way as my home standby generator... Install pics...

As for mice, the bottom has openings too. I saw in the news that a bad El Nino is expected to hit Cali similar to 2007/2008 and it will dump moisture across the mid to lower US. Might get a chance to run your generators this winter fellas.

Connected my MEP-803A the proper way as my home standby generator... Install pics...

I am having a similar situation. Prior to getting the generator our power would blip constantly and go out at least every 5-6 months. Granted I have only had it since April and the Hurricanes have been few and far the last two years but even the blips have stopped. Better to have and not need I...

Why are military generators so big?

In regards to the Military fuel/durability testing, it seems strange that they would document the generator failures in the test when they had no clue how many hours were on the generators or the maintenance history. The only new unit was a 30kw.

I have to call in or notify online as well (or someone does) but during that process I can select how I want to be notified. On the flip side they dont read my meter remotely so I get estimated bills every other month unless I call in the reading.

    MEP-802A running on Bio-Diesel

Are you already making bio or just thinking of making it? Most people who start realize its too messy or too much work and with off road Diesel at $2.00 a gallon its probably better/easier to just stock pile. I have ran mixed in my non military generator but I replaced the fuel line with bio...

    Generator accessories

Ok, getting old I guess and memory failed me. I have about 6" of insulated wire to work with and I think its just the ground that is aluminum. Guess I am safe if I only touch the one leg but those big wires scare me :D i am going to go ahead and install an alarm even though I could probably get...

    Generator accessories

Thanks everyone. If I recall correctly my main wires are not insulated very far into the box and I dont like playing with them. I will pull the panel and check if my memory serves me correctly. If there is enough insulation I will highly consider adding this device. My mains are just inside a...

    Generator accessories

Thanks, that is interesting. Been nice if you could just wrap it around the incoming main wires. I dont mess with or get near any exposed wires prior to the main breaker and mine are bare aluminium.

    Generator accessories

That is something I need but unsure how to do it. Can you expand on the power on alarm? I assume you have an interlock or manual transfer switch, so how do you monitor power on? My current power on alarm is through power company as I set it up to have them text or call me when reporting the...

    Generator accessories

Recently bought some accessories to enhance the generator experience. 1- Purchased a killowatt meter with Hz reading. Figured this will come in handy to monitor voltage and Hz from inside the house to save me from running out to verify. Less than $20 2- Purchased a power out alarm so I dont...

Guess batteries only last 4 years...

Just replaced 3 year old Johnson controls 51R in a 2012 Civic. Car was always driven regularly and alternator charges good. Not too impressed.

Why are military generators so big?

I have seen it all now. Where is the seat and beverage holder

Why are military generators so big?

Regarding the formal data, I would offer the following comments. 1- Good luck getting similar data for a non military generator and without that it is hard to really compare failure rates. 2- I would not expect much more out of the single cylinder Yanmar engines. Those things shake so bad its...

Why are military generators so big?

Main reason I have an MEP is I dont use it evey day and need it to start when the time comes. I also need long-term fuel storage so all that says diesel to me. I also need 240v and big surge capability and I want it to be quite too. All for under $4k. Eventually I may get a 2000w inverter...

Why are military generators so big?

The broken MEP's might have 5000-20000 hours on them and lived a tough life by generator standards. Just moving a generator around can cause issues. I say tell those guys they are right and move on with life. Less fools we have to bid against!

Mep generators vs low sulfur fuel

X2 on the PRI-D for storage. I have not used the algeacide products and have not noticed a problem yet, but I keep my stores in a building and I rotate so I never usually have any drum more than a year or two old.

Mep generators vs low sulfur fuel

I just add power service treatment whenever I fill it. Lubricates, increases cetane, prevents moisture.
