There is something about a tan truck that makes them go for big $. I looked at a tan A2 at Dobbins 2 months ago and ended up getting my current A2 out of Warner Robbins for a quarter of the price. The Dobbins A2 was newer with dual circuit brakes but wasn't worth X4. I also noticed the tan truck...
Make sure you don't have a bad battery causing the alternator to go to max output trying to charge it. A lot of GM 105 amp CS style alternators were fried because of this.
Thanks for the link! 5 Ton, for when a Deuce is not enough....I printed the CDL exemption from the Florida DMV site. I also carry with me the Regs exempting former military vehicles from displaying their tag.
Problem solved. My spider wires is in sorry shape, probably original to truck. Insulation is missing off of it and one of the dash light wires. They were touching causing the problem. I've wrapped everything with electrical tape and already had a new spider on order.
Thanks for the diagram. It looks like the panel lights, wire 49, come straight from the light switch. I guess I'll pull the panel and trace them back, not too far a distance. I can also pull the light switch and find the 49 pin and see if it's hot all the time. I just finished a 23 mile cruise...
Thanks for the quick replies and wire #'s. The truck came with no charging gauge (Radium!) so I found the only wire on the back of the panel that had been cut off and put a new end on it and connected it to the new charging gauge. I think it is one of the spider wires, the charging gauge works...
I changed a gauge on this new to me 1966 Deuce and now the dash lights come on as soon as I turn on the power switch/lever. They stay on no matter what position the levers are in on the light switch. All other lights work normally. Do I need to look for a short on the back of the panel or has my...
WELL...DRIVING AN A2 IS A LOT NOISIER THAN AN A3. But I DO like hearing that whistler turbo again! Just had an excellent ride. Temp gauge stayed just over 160, even on this hot afternoon. Oil pressure is 30 at idle, 60 when running. It was 15 with the idle too low. Excellent clutch, great...
Increased idle to 800/850 rpm, much better. My secondary fuel filters were as new as new gets. The military must have done a major overhaul on this prior to turn in. I've checked every fluid on this, including diffs, and it all looks like it went in yesterday. Definately a Sprag, I've started a...
Looks like my new 1967 A2 has a Sprag, another learning opportunity. I did the test in the 20-3-1, section 9-45. My tire turns forward and backward when in 1st gear, time to adjust? I've read most of the threads and it looks straight forward, just follow the instructions in the 20 manual...Can I...
Thought I'd add pics and keep this thread going as I progress...First question, this truck has a heavy coat of CARC. In the few places it's peeling I'm seeing a dark green smooth paint. Was this truck originally the 50's/60's darker green?... In tank fuel pump and fuel level sending unit look...
I' ve been Deuceless for 2 months since my A3 went to it's new owner, not a good situation. I won this truck 6/16 at Warner Robbins and it arrived Friday. It still has many of the old features. The headlights are lower, the drivers seat base is a metal box, the air buzzer is a big round thing...
Recovry4x4 your first post was some funny stuff... I spent many years in the Material Handling Industry here in Central Florida. A wheel chock was always an easy sale. You could tell who had already had problems, they actually thanked you for selling them one.
How many miles on the truck? If it's not many I doubt steering components are worn out. My A3, like all the others, had a very noticible shimmy around 40 mph. I aired the tires to 52 psi and added 1.2 lbs of lead shims on each wheel opposite the CTIS system. . Others add 3 full size lug nuts to...
Wow! Several years ago there were always over 100 listed. I seem to remember they were letting them go 150 at a time from Mechanicsburg. There were always threads about when are they were going to run out. Looks like were getting close...Buy em while you can.
