Fuse Block Question - Where to pull power?

Did you just plug the spade connector into the "front" of the fuse- block (side the fuses plug into? Also, how did you also tap off of the light switch? Automotive electrical is a little new to me so I'm looking for all the ideas I can get. One more thing: How / where did you mount your...

A picture of my fried Glow Plug Card

That board may be repairable if you have a little electronic knowledge (or know someone who does). The component that fried is likely available from a Radio Shack (assuming you have one that still sells actual electronics and not just cell phones), and the burned traces can be patched with some...

Fuse Block Question - Where to pull power?

So it's safe to assume that it would be a good place to pull power? Since these aren't normal fuse sockets, how would the factory wiring be setup? I just don't want to overdraw the circuit they come from and smoke the wiring... What type of setup did you use for your gauge lighting?

Fuse Block Question - Where to pull power?

I am looking to add a couple of circuits to run a 12V accessory socket in the cigarette lighter position, and to power a CB. I don't anticipate needing a huge current-handling capacity. I checked the fuse block and found a couple of "individual" terminals that have 12V Key On / 0V Key Off...

    Smoke from Dipstick Tube

Is there any way to actually test the CDR Valve? I thoroughly cleaned it out using WD-40 as previously suggested. I pretty much filled it up and let it soak for a while then shook it around and dump out all the fluid. I also cleaned the hose that goes between the oil fill tube and CDR. After...

    Smoke from Dipstick Tube

I was there about noon on Saturday with my 13 year old nephew. I'll check into the CDR at Courtesy. I like the idea of putting in a new one and cleaning the old one for a spare. Hopefully they're still available....

    Smoke from Dipstick Tube

Just a thought, but if oil were making it into the combustion chamber wouldn't this thing smoke like an SOB out the exhaust? I'm basing this strictly off experience with gasoline engines (I'm pretty new to diesel). Thanks

    Smoke from Dipstick Tube

OK...so CDR needs to be cleaned. Will it hurt the engine to drive it like this, or should I park until I can clean it out?

    Smoke from Dipstick Tube

Today while tinkering around with my M1009, I pulled out the engine oil dipstick while the engine was idling. As soon as I pulled it out, smoke started puffing out of the dipstick tube. Now, I'm not a "Diesel Mechanic", but this seems like a bad thing to me..... I assume it means...

    Gauges question

Interesting job he did with those gauges. I want to try to maintain the "stock" look but still give the dash a more useful set of instruments. Where is the "4WD" idiot light mounted in a civy truck? I'd like to use those top 2 spots for gauges, and relocate the 4WD indicator.

    Sylvania Silverstar Installation

While repairing some other wiring under the hood, I found a few patches of wire where the insulation had dried out and "flaked" off. There were a couple exposed conductors because of this. I spliced in some new wire to avoid future issues. It may also be worth checking out the headlight...

    Gauges question

Do you have any pics of the install (or any other info)? I've been thinking of doing something similar to that. Do the Sunpro gauges bolt into the cluster housing and still fit behind the outer dash bezel? My ideal setup would be Oil Pressure and Water Temp in the cluster (top 2 idiot light...

    Sylvania Silverstar Installation

That's actually something I haven't gotten around to testing yet. I have the gauge cluster out today, so if its put back together tomorrow I'll try to get a reading. I checked the specs on the new bulbs and according to Sylvania they are 55W on Low Beam. On a 12V system this should work out...

    Sylvania Silverstar Installation

I just wanted to post some findings from a little experiment I did the other day. As we all know the M1009 headlights are adequate, but not what you would call "bright". I decided to test out the claims made by Sylvania that their "Silverstar" line of headlights is 35% brighter than standard...

    GA CUCV Recovery

when using this "switch" mod the glow-plug controller will continue to work normally, correct? I'm interested in adding a switch as a precaution against possible future failure of the controller. I like having it do the work for me....but if it breaks I still want to be able to get it going!

    Instrument Cluster Questions

Any mechanical speedometer (same style) from a civy Blazer should fit correct? I'd like to use the current printed circuit board since it works fine....just want a trip-meter and if possible a 7-digit odometer that will keep track of the many hundreds-of-thousands of miles I intent to put on...

    Instrument Cluster Questions

My bad. I didn't intend to suggest anything illegal, only to have a replacement odometer show the correct mileage for my truck. By the way Warthog - thanks for all your input on this question and others that I have had. This site has provided a wealth of info that has helped me correct MANY...

    Instrument Cluster Questions

One more question.... Is there a way to "adjust" the mileage on the odometer? I'm thinking about swapping out the Speedometer for a civy unit that has the trip meter. I just don't want to have it show the wrong mileage. Ideally, I'd be able to set it to what the current unit shows. Thanks!

    Instrument Cluster Questions

I have a couple quick questions regarding the instrument cluster in my M1009. 1. I need a replacement light-bulb socket for the Voltmeter gauge. I've checked part sources and can't seem to find one that will fit properly into the gauge. Anyone have a source? 2. Is the main instrument...
