    Dim Dash Lighting

Well...I replaced the headlight switch today and did the same voltage test as before. Now, the voltage "begins" at ~10VDC and with the switch rotated all the way counter-clockwise it reads 12V. I haven't had a chance to test yet (cluster is still out), but this increased voltage should produce...

    Dim Dash Lighting

Which ground wire was broken? The main ground above the e-brake pedal?

    Headlight Grounding

:lost: Well....the Turn Signal / Hazard switch is now brand-spanking-new and the problem still exists. As it is everything works perfectly normal with one exception: If I press the brake pedal the front driver-side turn-signal will come on steadily. If I put on the turn signal while holding...

    Steering Column Removal - M1009

Mission Accomplished [thumbzup] I was able to replace the turn-signal switch without dropping the column all the way down (it only came down about 1"). While I was in there I also got the headlight dimmer working properly. The metal actuator rod had come out of the "cup" that it sits in...

    Dim Dash Lighting

How much brighter were the LED's after install? I kinda like the red idea for gauges.

    Dim Dash Lighting

Did you ever happen to measure voltage across the switch? I am intrigued by the "missing" 1.2VDC at the bulb socket...but I could just be chasing shadows...:cookoo:

    Dim Dash Lighting

Today while tinkering around with my M1009 I decided to do a little investigation into the dim backlighting for the gauges. The light bulbs all work, but seem to be fairly dim....to the point where its difficult to read the speedometer at night. I pulled out the instrument cluster face and...

    Steering Column Removal - M1009

Thanks everybody for all the input. I'll take a look at this tomorrow and see if I can get the sucker out. If I don't settle all these goofball electrical problems soon I won't have any hair left! EDIT On a side-note.... What is the part inside the steering column that the turn-signal...

    Steering Column Removal - M1009

OK... Today I started the replacement of my turn signal / dimmer switch. I followed the steps in the -34 TM. After removing the 2 nuts that bolt the column support to the bottom of the dash, I cannot get the column to drop down. According to the TM it should just come down after its...

    electrical problem (head lights)

I was experiencing this exact same problem on the passenger side headlight and fixed it by replacing the ground wire. The passenger-side ground is attached to the body right in front of the forward battery. The wire was completely broken on mine....easy fix.

Bolt Holes in Passenger Floorboard - M1009

I tried the "advanced search" function and kept coming up with posts referring to differentials / axles, etc (10-bolt, 14-bolt....). I'll try to refine my search queries a little better in the future...

Bolt Holes in Passenger Floorboard - M1009

Can somebody enlighten me as to what the 4 bolt-holes in the passenger floorboard (front seat area) are supposed to be for? I saw a photo of an M1009 that had some sort of bracket attached there but I'm not sure what the heck it is. I'm just moderately curious what purpose it could possibly...

    Headlight Grounding

I just went and goofed around with it to verify exactly what is happening. The problem is isolated to the front driver-side indicator light. 1. Turn the headlights on the parking-light filament illuminates normally. 2. Turn the left turn-signal on the turn-signal filament blinks as it...

    Headlight Grounding

Thanks. I'll double-check the headlight grounds. The ground underneath the dash looks clean and undamaged. As for the hazard switch....I hadn't thought of that. I may just replace that switch on general principle...

    Headlight Grounding

Thank to everyone for their suggestions so far, but unfortunately this one is not wrapped up yet. So far what I have done: 1. Checked grounds at taillights (used a dremel with grinding wheel to take off some paint and clean up the ring terminal) 2. Checked wiring at taillights (no breaks or...

    Headlight Grounding

The ground wire that you are looking for is inside the engine-bay on the passenger side of the vehicle. You will see a ground-wire with ring-terminal attached to (I think) the radiator support right in front of the front battery. I actually had to move the battery hold-down plate to the the...

    Headlight Grounding

I haven't looked to see if they do or not. Has anyone had experience with this type of problem before? I am going to be replacing the turn-signal / wiper switch since the dimmer portion is pretty sketchy. Hopefully replacing that switch will correct the issue with the driver side turn-signal...

    Headlight Grounding

Well... :grd: I solved one big problem today. Thanks to all the info I found by searching this site I tracked down a broken ground wire at the Passenger Side headlight connector and successfully replaced it. For anyone else who may have a similar problem, here are the symptoms I had: 1...

    Electrical Gremlins

Does anyone have a good method for cleaning the contacts in the fuse box? I've pulled out each fuse and cleaned the contacts using some fine sandpaper (they were NASTY). What I need is a good method to clean the "slots" in the panel that the fuses actually plug into. I have a few...

    Backup Light Troubleshooting - M1009

I took apart and thoroughly cleaned the reverse light switch. I also put a little dialectric grease on the contacts inside. After re-installing the switch into the steering column (what a PITA!!) the reverse lights work. However, if you jiggle the gear selector on the column a little bit...
