Here is a thread I started about these things.
Good find it looks pretty clean.
After seeing all of the "My first cucv" threads i have decided it would be beneficial to make this thread. These are some of the common problems, tips, and solutions that i have found. I would appreciate if everyone posts any ideas that they have too help new CUCV owners.
-Things I would Do...
Make shure you use the plastic type inline fuse not the glass buss fuses. I found that alot of my m1009's electronic problems Were fixed when i removed all the fuses. Then i sprayed electrical contact cleaner in all of the fuse blocks ports. Then i used dialectric grease on all the fuses when...
The light bulb socket with the grey and black wire is the backlight for your voltmeter. To access the lights you need to pull the black plastic face. Then pull the white instrument cluster and they will be in the rear.
Yes that is dot 3 and 5 mixed together. Just use dot 3 in your truck. Just to be shure i would siphon some of your existing fluid and mix it with some new dot 3 and look to see if they seperate.
I had the same problem. Eventually my heater fuse melted along with part of the fuse block. I bypassed the fuse block for the heater circuit and added in a seperate 20 amp inline fuse.
I dont know if you would be able to find them but i installed new rubber bushings on the top. I got these from a new pair of mirrors i bought on ebay. Now my mirrors stay in place. At the same time i replaced my door striker bolts so i no longer have to slam my door (well not as hard).
Could it be uneven wear in the tires? Maybe the wheel bearings are bad and not rotating properly with the vehicles weight is being distributed differntly when making a U-turn. Just an idea. Goodluck.
You should make shure that your state doesn't require a title. If it does i would try to stay clear of this vehicle. Wiper blades are 20 dollars so no big deal there. For the radiator it may need to be replaced. And for the axles, the cost to have them fixed depends where they are leaking from.
