    Lmtv oil pan r&r

I learned the hard way that gaskets won't stay sealed. Three times, three gaskets failed. The vibration of the engine causes movement along the gasket. Use Permatex Right Stuff gasket maker and no gasket. Mine has held for several years now. Hope the pan never has to come off. Installing...

    Cab ride shock absorbers

This is what I have been using, a piece of MB coolant hose off an Unimog. It fits perfectly. Other locally available hoses should fit too. The fit is snug so silicon grease helps.

    LMTV Window Channel Rubber

I used this stuff. Just glued it in with Gorilla Glue. https://www.ebay.com/itm/323501716377 Works fine as long as you don't glue your windows shut. ha ha.

Those with A3 rims that don't leak... Clamp ring tightness

There must be more to the story about a death from an implied blown up fmtv wheel. The very nature of the assembly is when a few of the 20 bolts are loosened, any pressure in the tire would be dumped. There is no way, IMHO, that most of the 20 bolts could be undone and cause an explosion.

    M1078 air leak behind grill

JD404.., I think I had that same failure once. Thankfully I took notes. I think you have an o-ring leaking in the venting portion of the treadle valve. It is not a total failure situation if so. The leak will drain the air over time but does not involve braking so you can 'live with it'...

Looking for information - Fiberglass Gelcoat - Stewart & Stevenson Grill

My battery cover looked like that. I wet sanded it (wear gloves) and painted it with Rustoleum Rubberized Undercoating in a rattle can. It is flat black and has held up well for a couple of years so far.

    1078A1 Drivetrain

That crack in the engine block is at the same pan bolt as the crack on an engine I have. You will probably find the pan bolts loose. I pulled the pan and magnafluxed the inside block wall and no crack. Oil may not leak through the crack but through the pan seal. You can take out the bolt...

    What is it?

Load of water = heavy = might be bump stop pieces. Those are maybe 5" diameter (guessing, it's raining here!).

    "On the road again..."

I am in full support of Celticlady too. I use an IR 1 inch impact and do not care if I have to pause occasionally as air rebuilds. At my age I enjoy time to take a break in the midst of a roadside tire change. Knowing that the impact is fully bi-directional is a great idea.

    Battery disconnect?

The "two bank disconnect" still leaves a high current short available between 12 and 24 positives. Batteries can and do output hundreds of amps every time the truck starts. Working on typical field repairs and shop welding is usually around 100 amps or less. The batteries don't mind a bit...

    Brakes "bucking" after stopped

Maybe too high idle and the trans doesn't shift until stopped. Try lifting the go-pedal with your toe before you stop.

    Battery disconnect?

Then 12v becomes a reference, with 12v high current between anything 12v, and anything 24v.. If you work on circuits where 12v bus and 24v busses are close together, you can still experence a catastrophic short. Like working behind the dash, or the polarity protection box. Still best to...

    Air Dryer

Most of us knew what Niuhi meant. I like my old filters too.

    LMTV Allison transmission bad keypad?

Excellent! I'll send him mine as soon as I get around to pulling the dash (a job I hate :-) ).

    LMTV Allison transmission bad keypad?

It's a WtecII. I know there was a thread on where to send them, if I can find it. Thanks! I do have a spare to get her going with.

    LMTV Allison transmission bad keypad?

Haven't found this particular issue discussed, a probable bad keypad "button". The 'down' arrow is non-responsive. Cannot force a lower gear limit while driving, and cannot engage 1st gear. There is no beep either. Other than that the LMTV drives and shifts great (got it yesterday so it's...

Cracked block- might as well upgrade.

Before you trash that engine and go to the effort to replace it, take the pan off and magnaflux the block, looking on the inside. I have seen micro cracks on 3116 blocks that do not pass through to the inside. They were aligned with pan bolts, where the holes in the block apparently built some...

    What is this...anyone?

I admire your ability to trash that bit. I have boxes of tidbits like that which will "someday" be identified and useful .

Help identifying 11" brake components on M38a1

I bought an M38 Willys Jeep in 1967 and put 11" brakes on it. My memory says they were Wagoneer brakes. Looking at Wagoneer history they came out in 63 so that timing was possible. In the advertisement listed above, the seller says "Willys OEM", so I suggest looking at early Wagoneer brakes...

Towing an Off Road / Overland FMTV

This is a good thread for all LMTV owners. Glad it popped back to the top. Vertigo, if you get the new truck, please share your troubleshooying adventure.
