I think my air compressor is cycling to much.

Big clue: wet tank drops to about 80 psi. The Pressure Protection Valve turns off, closes, at about that pressure. That means the leak is either the CTIS circuit or the cab suspension air system, both of which run off the wet tank. Try turning off the cab suspension with the locking button...

3 of 4 door hinge bolts snapped off

Looks like the busted studs stick out far enough to hold a nut over each, weld on inside the nut, use wrench to remove gently. Heat is perfect side-product.

    LMTV pulls an Unimog out

The line on the top of the mog was a safety cable. The mog tilt gave the driver a high pucker factor, for good reason. The ground was bottomless and the mog really stuck. The 5 ton MTV is a remarkable pulling machine.

The Once And For All On Batteries...

Great info! Couple of additions: for any vehicle that sits for any length of time beyond a few days, 2 batteries may actually be better. Batteries in parallel are never equal. The worse one will load the better one, and both discharge more quickly. All the bad batteries out of the military...

The dreaded CTIS seal, bearing repack job on my MTV

How to know? Sometimes they whistle at you! My truck would occasionally get a wheel squeak (I thought), usually after going offroad, so I thought the brakes had a little dust or a gravel in them. The squeak would happen for only a partial wheel rotation. But then one day I realized the...

    No longer Stuck in Tennessee

Too bad you hesitated to let us know where you were. I am 10 miles away and have had exactly that failure. That's a roadside fix if there is simply dirt in the treadle valve. Good luck.

    No longer Stuck in Tennessee

Read this thread: Air brake info and troubleshooting, post #7. I can't cut and paste at the moment. That exact failure is described. Where are you?.

    Diagnosing CTIS M1078

I have an LMTV 1078 that times out with two lights as yours does. It is a timeout at about 15 minutes if the system is not able to achieve the pressure goal. In my case the failure is because of a leaky seal in the left front axle/hub. I can hear a whistle from it sometimes. I have found...

    Aligning the doors

Adjusting the bottom of the door and keeping it in a reasonable fit might not let the top close properly. You can bend the door window frames inward. Some of the doors just do not fit and there is a gap at the top. How I did it: Roll the window down to protect the glass, put a strap around...

Are Goodyear MTs ever actually round?

My setup is not so complicated: I rolled the tires by hand this time but discovered later that the lawn mower with hydrostatic drive worked great if I used a ratchet to pull the rear tire of the mower up against the truck tire. The disk is a tire grinder.

    Diagnosing CTIS M1078

Ronmar is one of the good tech guys who says more than "go read the manual and follow the troubeshooting"!

    LMTV M1078 Wont start.

Ron, there may have been an attempt to correct that cooling issue. Two LMTVs I have had apart had a machined restrictor in the left side inlet of the tranny cooler. Can't remember for sure but remaining passage is half an inch or so.

    FMTV Water Pump Belt Replacement

If you make up a short pigtail to put shop air pressure on the fan clutch, it is easy to turn.

Interesting design! Looking forward to your results.

    LMTV M1078 Wont start.

Save some money and just clean up the hard parts of those couplers. Replace the rubber seals with replacements at NAPA or many other auto parts stores.

    M1078 CTIS Air Down Problem

Another common leak is where the kneeling valve (which Ron mentioned) screws on to the skinny end of the stem from the wheel. That joint has delicate threads and a tiny internal o-ring. The kneeling valve is heavy and puts a lot force on the end of the stem as it is whipped around while...

    M1088 camper conversion

Recommend you consider a mag drill and annular cutters. Mine made frame drilling so easy. You can rent the drill but have to buy your cutters.

    LMTV M1078 Wont start.

What Ron said! You have committed that fresh motor oil, might as well commit to a new oil filter and not risk contaminating your new oil. I would look in the filter for trouble, just for grins. Expect close to 7 gallons of oil to be needed with a new/empty filter so 20 qt is a little light...

    Picture of your Battery Box?

I see the merit of wiring like that. In the original military setup the batteries in series, call them the 0-12 batteries and the 12-24 batteries, DO get charged differently. I have verified that on the four trucks here and others. The reason is the Niehoff voltage regulators (some models at...

TM For M1078A1 trouble shooting Ele?

TM-9-2320-365-10 is clearly a M-1078 manual available in the FMTV manual section on this forum. Not -A1. Dated 2001.
