    Two new toys unimog 404

Johan, I have read your thread and see several unanswered questions. Concerning the added electric fuel pump, yes, this is common modification to do two things; 1) boost pressure to the carb to overcome vapor locking as you suspected, and 2) prime the carb after sitting a long time or even if...

That's brilliant to check the dynamic bowl level that way!

Please help identify an FMTV manual

This is great! Hope this manual will be useful to those of you lucky enough to have later trucks. Ron was going to check his capabilities to scan. I will let you two decide who gets the 'opportunity', ha ha. Send me a PM with a mailing address and I'll get the copy to you. Thanks for doing...

Exactly the logic needed. Tnx Ron.

Please help identify an FMTV manual

This loose-leaf paper copy training manual is for the FMTV series trucks, but the model is not specified on the prints. The 50 plus page manual breaks out the truck systems, each on a page or two, not spread all over ‘30’ or more pages as is done in the manuals we have in the archives. Anyone...

What size recovery strap is appropriate for an MTVR motorhome?

Also look into "soft shackles" that won't take out your tailgate if something breaks.

What size recovery strap is appropriate for an MTVR motorhome?

If jerking on the -strap- is anticipated, and who doesn't jerk on them, then a dynamic -strap- is called for. There is a category of recovery devices called a kenetic rope. I carry a 30 ft Bubba Rope rated at something like 100k lbs in the LMTV. Haven't used that heavy one yet but they work...

M1 Searchlight Trailer, G221, info and restoration to 'usable'

Does anyone have experience restoring a data plate like this? It can be read but with difficulty. Any background coloration is gone and the relief is so low I can't see a way to re-color it for readability. Thanks

M1 Searchlight Trailer, G221, info and restoration to 'usable'

Kirk, I received my TM5-7044 manual today, hard copy from Belgium. Great reading. I can read all about how the M1 trailer is made and operated. Thanks for the reference.

What are you using to seal up the turret cover?

Nylon or other 'smashy' washers under the bolts will seal those. I had a persistent leak and it was a bolt leak. Drove me crazy to find it. The plug is sealed with DOW U-428 windshield sealant because I do not intend to ever remove it.

    CCKW Wheels on a G-221, M1 trailer

My M1 trailer apparently has CCKW wheels on it. This info was gleaned from the G-503 forum. I do not have a spare. These wheels look like the wheels on an M-105 trailer and should be easier to find. So my question is can M-105 wheels, that is Deuce wheels, fit on my G-221? It looks like...

I thought you guys might enjoy this.....

For real?? Those guys are smarter than they look. They kinda remind me of my grand sons and I can't keep up with their chatter either. My ears don't hear that fast.

M1 Searchlight Trailer, G221, info and restoration to 'usable'

Hello Kirk, Thanks for the description of how the trailer tilts. Your trailer at least still has the tailgate and upper structure around the fenders so you have more to work with. The picture of the tailgate gives me something to go by to fabricate the new tailgate-ramp combination. So the...

    LMTV tires

I drove my M1078 about 4500 miles on one trip with goodyear tires at 55 psi with even wear. Guessing, about a third of the tread wore off. Goodyears have heavier sidewalls and in my opinion should not be run at lower pressure. that trip was mostly backroads from TN through MO, to CO, UT...

    LMTV tires

Just read the comment about fast wear with Michelin tires. I have run 365 x 20 XZL's for well over 100 k miles on several Unimog trucks. High air pressure kills the Michelins. For example, on a U1300 a pressure of 65 psi was tried on a round trip Knoxville to Denver and back. Just about used...

What have you done to your FMTV or LMTV today

While climbing around on my engine I found an easier way: Borrowed the camper ladder!

What have you done to your FMTV or LMTV today

I rebuilt the cab suspension yoke in an LMTV. Both bags are replaced and shocks and bushings checked. Did the cab latch seals too. You can work on each side individually in place, or try taking out the whole yoke instead of negotiating those hard-to-get-to bolts on the tops of the...

    Advanced Electrical Diagnostics Needed M1078

Page 1135 is the symbols page followed by MANY pages of schematics. What are you seeing? I referred you to volume 3 so that seriesvof pages applies, but if you look in the back of other 20 series manuals you will find electrical schematic s too, as Ron pointed out. Maybe it would help us...

    Advanced Electrical Diagnostics Needed M1078

The electrical schematics are in the Manual TM 9-2320-365-20-3. Find this on this forum by looking in MANUALS, Present Conflict, second page from there, 8th line down, FMTV manuals then TM 9-2320-365-20-3. The schematic pages are near the bottom of the manual, around page 1134 and down. It...
