Deff check the front driveshaft. I just got rid of a truck that the front driveshaft was so worn out that you didn't even hear it spin but it was turning and not driving the front axle in the least bit. To check it put it in a vice and use a big pipe wrench and try to spin it hard. I had...
Yes, thats my truck in my avatar. I'm in Commack. Pa. issues temp tags at vehicle dealers, or there are many other private places you can get temporary transport tags. All you need is a insurance card and the paperwork for the vehicle for them to put down on the paperwork. I was lucky that...
Where on LI are you? I had to go to Penn. to get mine, had title, got temp tags, drove it home. Paid alittle more than GL price for it, but I'm happy with it. Check out Colemans Militray surplus, that's where I bought it. I imagine that the other M1008 they had and the M1009 are still there...
I put a 4 inch lift on my M1008 a few weeks back. I left the stock lines on for about a week and a half. It was fine. I wheeled it once, no issues but I don't recomend it. If there's alittle bit of play at ride height, as mentioned before you should be ok. If you want to save a few dollars...
Here's food for thought, I had the same problem. Bought new swithces on E-pay, got a used fuel filter base froma member here on Steel Soldiers, and I tapped out the water and air drain fittings on the top and bottom of base and installed brass needle valves with some short lengths of 1/4"...
yes, the gear vendors unit is expensive. But in most likelyhood thats what I'm gonna install on my M1008. I have a 4 inch lift on mine with factory rims and Nitto Terra Grapplers 285/75R/16's. I run 50-55mph tops I've done jaunts at 60 mph but it makes me nervous. I plan on using all the lift...
RE: battery
My truck has some no name parts store batteries in it, 650 CCA. They worked fine down to -20 degs. Of course the truck only saw those conditions when I went snowmobiling, but they always worked. Would like some bigger ones like 6TLs or Optima yellow tops. But they were new and...
I should be in
Loc: Long Island, New York
MV: Lifted 1986 M1008
Convoy: If I get off, Deffinately
ect: Probably a M416 trailer, random camping stuff, and whatever else
The biggest problem is checking th history of the VIN or serial number. A buddy of mine is slowly trying to figure out how to not register his trailer as a home built, because the serial number is the same as some civilian trailer upstate that was stolen. It should be no problem as they are...
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: Fuel Economy
The problem there being that you have to offset the cost of the materials for the dual tank set up and the heater before your really saving. But from what I understand that doesn't take very long. Especially if you drive a duece aliot.
well, I made brakets to compensate for the lift, the poblem is, the center section of the valve was spun so I don;t know where it was sitting originally. Putting the arm back to where it was is easy. it's knowing where the valve was set that is the problem. I just ned to know how to reset is...
I just lifted my 86 M1008 and much to my dismay, while finishing up the rear of the truck and getting ready to connect the linkage for the rear proportiong valve I watched as my brother spun the valve to "see if it was free and working" So now armed with no knowledge of where it was originally...
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: Fuel Economy of Alte
This is great info. I have yet to secure my M35 but it may be alot sooner now. Keep the info comming
Did you have them registered before you picked them up? Or did you have some type of dealer plate or temp tag from your state? I only ask because eventually I would like to get a M1009 from GL but NY is not really a temp tag state. Just curious how you went about it.
I may be in the market for a Multifuel M35 W/W. A guy I know has one that he's looking to get rid of because he just does't have the time for it anymore. My question is, how much does the fuel economy/power change when they're run on say gasoline or kerosine? My father had a multifuel duece...
I'm thinking of getting another MV for the collection and and have been seriously considering a Mutt. I just got a M416 trailer so I figured why not make it a set. I see there are plenty of parts available for them. My questions however are how well do they work in the real world? What kind of...
