Does a Caiman C9 acert fit in a FMTV?

I doubt it would fit and getting any CAT dealer to even agree to look at your engine swapped Army truck is unlikely. The truck dealers don't want to touch them because of the EPA, and the power equipment dealers don't want to touch them because it's in a truck. And if you did use a C9 from a...

    FMTV 3126 Engine options

I would get a M-ATV 370 HP C7 crate engine when one shows up in the surplus market again. The issues I've seen with the 3126: 1. Engine oil pump's have problems with the idler design and at some point they changed the pump from a gear pump to a trochoid pump. Some pumps have a ball bearing for...

Control, we are detecting a shimmy.

All the heavy trucks - 1088, 1089, etc run 81 psi for the CTIS.

Standard Test Equipment port (A0's and?... why/why not utilize this more than we are doing now.

The electronic engines of course output tach through the J1939 for diag (such as the stall test) and the CAT ECM has two available high idle speed settings - one of which is used by the factory momentary rocker for PTO/warmup operation (set to 1350 RPM). In addition the cruise control accel and...

    M1078A1 "Pandora" Build | 2024-??? | ***Picture Heavy***

The Niehoff alts use a different hinge mount spec. The ear distance (on the 260) is 5.5", and the backside of the front ear is 3" behind the back of the drive pulley. It's not that hard to one-off fabricate a mount. Some 1/4" steel plate, and a bit of heavy-wall tubing for the hinge bolt. Some...

Standard Test Equipment port (A0's and?... why/why not utilize this more than we are doing now.

No the Brazos was in the BAE era of FMTV's which was several years after the C7 was standardized. The Cummins has full diesel emissions systems including DEF. I think they are all round 2012 models. They only made like 50 of them.

Standard Test Equipment port (A0's and?... why/why not utilize this more than we are doing now.

The civilian Brazos had the under-powered Cummins. The military FMTV's built by BAE have the CAT C7. And The A1P2's are also still being produced with C7's.

Standard Test Equipment port (A0's and?... why/why not utilize this more than we are doing now.

I'm in the same camp as several other seasoned FMTV veterans as well as yourself - I rank the FMTV engines with the 3126b at the bottom of the list. C7 is most desirable, 3116 is reliable but showing its age, lower performance, and more maintenance intensive, and then 3126b as the least...

Control, we are detecting a shimmy.

Rotate your tires and rotate in the spare and see if it changes. And definitely fix that driveshaft before it lets go and shreds the transmission - front DS failures usually destroy the transmission or at least the control valve body ($5,000 part).

That's true. It depends on your use case. Is it practical to drive my M1079 as a daily? No but it doesn't stop me. I have mixed feelings on Power Probe as a brand. I have one (and their short finder, and a couple other items) - virtually never use it. I find their flagship devices to be...

    LMTV Passenger Seats

That doesn't look like it will even remotely fit in an FMTV. The cabover design means the seats are VERY low profile. You need Euro seats. Cabovers are much more common in Europe. This is why people use passenger car seats or Sheel-Mann seats that are $1500 each. Mastercraft makes the A1P2...

    LMTV Passenger Seats

No one builds boxes that can survive 18,000 lbs of truck on top of them. Also I would guess that an individual in a habitat made of fiberglass, extruded aluminum, and glue that is not strapped into a seat is likely to suffer significant harm in a collision as they are violently accelerated...

Standard Test Equipment port (A0's and?... why/why not utilize this more than we are doing now.

A scope can be a very useful thing. And there are decent options that are quite a bit cheaper than the Picoscope. The real benefit to buying their product is their software - part of which is geared specifically toward automotive diagnostics. But (big but) my fully decked out 4-channel Picoscope...

Standard Test Equipment port (A0's and?... why/why not utilize this more than we are doing now.

It's a nice thought but the STE-ICE kit is not suitable to be used constantly as a monitoring device. The "interconnect box" is nearly the size of a 1990's laptop all by itself (differently shaped but it's got similar bulk), the cables are stupidly long, and the whole mess is....well.... a mess...

Standard Test Equipment port (A0's and?... why/why not utilize this more than we are doing now.

Actually there's quite a few of us that have the various ICE kits. I have a STE-ICE kit, and several versions of the SWICE kits. What I don't have (by choice) is anything that uses the analog diagnostic port. HMMWV's, CUCV's, and many other (older) military vehicles have the same port as the A0...

    M1078A1P2 CTIS Deflating All Tires

The DANA diagnostic software is free and will work with your MSD and SWICE kit. You can use it to talk to the CTIS controller and see what it's reading for pressure and if it has any diagnostic codes stored.

The STE-ICE test set is the "Standard Test Equipment - Internal Combustion Engine" test set. It provides proprietary vehicle diagnostic and general diagnostic interconnect equipment. Such as a DMM, Inductive Amperage clamp, revolution sensor, pressure transducers, adapters, test probes, and...

ECO Hubs Who needs 3:07 gears?

3.90's will be better. But 3.07's can work if you aren't crazy heavy. The ideal ratio would be somewhere around 4.5 but AFAIK there's no one making R&P sets in alternate ratios. 3.07's are what @ckouba is running and he's probably as heavy as I would recommend with that gearing and power -...

    Yet another alternator question

Well that's good that you have a newer transmission and driveshafts! I would be happy about that. These transmision suffered from a C6 thrust bearing/bushing issue in the transfer case that is a can of worms if you are afflicted by it. I really like the ECO hubs for keeping these transmissions...
