Haldex PUREst dryer failure - casting defect?

I'm going to check the newest sources I have for other diagrams. Yes they did delete the load proportioning valve - not present on my truck.

Haldex PUREst dryer failure - casting defect?

I just pulled this up to look at - posting it here before I try to read this myself o_O I compressed the image file and attached it so the forum wouldn't resize the image to unreadable. This should be the A1+ pneumatic system schematic.

Haldex PUREst dryer failure - casting defect?

Mostly under the dash on my truck. Both sides. Also found some push-lock fittings on the back of the air-hydraulic control panel.

Haldex PUREst dryer failure - casting defect?

I'm wondering if the service air tank check valves are leaking back to the wet tank - just very slowly and more-so when cold. I did replace them....... I do agree that in theory if the check valves are perfect the service tanks should stay up but prior to swapping the dryer they would always...

Haldex PUREst dryer failure - casting defect?

That's what I thought too. But this dryer has TWO relief valves. One that was originally 150 psi (Haldex later changed this to 175) that is the safety relief valve for the discharge check valve, and this unit which is a 250 psi relief valve. I'm thinking this 250 psi valve is on the purge signal...

Haldex PUREst dryer failure - casting defect?

I've been fighting my air system not holding (perfect) pressure overnight since I bought this truck in '21. Even after fixing every leak I could find, the pressure would drop overnight - depending on ambient temperature - usually from full tanks to about 60 psi but at times if it was fairly cold...

Control, we are detecting a shimmy.

Most surplus tire suppliers are selling them in that price range for "less than 5 years old" date codes. I mean - not terrible given these cost about $2k per tire for brand new - 1/3 the cost for 1/2 the life - not that bad all things considered but mounting them is a beast of a job so you're...

    M1078A1 radiator

All the trucks use the same radiator: 2930-01-519-3573

TRANS codes solved D1 4416 and others

The TCM is the first module to complain about bad power/ground and seems to be more sensitive than other modules to abuse of this rule. A very large percentage of problems people have with these trucks is OFTEN just poor/bad batteries, and poor/bad connections to the batteries. I've see these...

    FMTV 3126 Engine options

Yeah after @Lostchain 's experience and when @ckouba 's HEUI pump left the chat we included the main oil pump and checking the oil cooler for flatness to the list of preventative items while it was blown apart. Fortunately his HEUI pump did not disintegrate catastrophically into the injectors so...

    FMTV 3126 Engine options

@Lostchain had the exact same situation with 6,500 miles on his 3126. Changed out his pump and all was fixed. His thermostats were also bad and causing overheating.

    FMTV 3126 Engine options

They like to crack on the drivers side at the rear - behind the starter. Plenty of non-military applications that experienced that failure and in our application the operating conditions can be significantly more harsh. Slowing down the drivelines with the ECO hubs helps for sure. If I was...

    FMTV 3126 Engine options

It would have been the complete engine rebuild. CSMS is a Combined Support Maintenance Shop - these are used by multiple units and are staffed with AGR and civilian contractors. It means it got "overhauled" by the lowest common denominator. Underpaid government employees that would have to...

Control, we are detecting a shimmy.

If you dismount those paper weights for balance beads just throw them in the dumpster. 12 year old tires are going to get you killed. Those are garbage and should be destroyed so they can't hurt anyone.

I might be a little crazy – 4,000 mile M1079 recovery Illinois to Alaska

Yep kinda like power windows and starters. 24v makes them really move but can shorten their life. Definitely should always be prepared to jumper out a relay if needed.

    LMTV Passenger Seats

Stress risers at sharp corners is an issue for many sheet materials - even aluminum in some applications like aircraft (typically much thinner). You familiar with the tombstone engineering of the de Havilland DH.106 Comet? To be clear - I don't think Globe Trekker products are unreasonably...

    LMTV Passenger Seats

The windows typically used in composite RV construction have rounded corners like aircraft windows. This is because you don't want sharp corners or cracks may form in the outer skin and propagate from the sharp stress point. I spoke with Bill at Glob Trekker (we're local to each other) about...

I might be a little crazy – 4,000 mile M1079 recovery Illinois to Alaska

A 12v relay is going to use a 12v coil and expect a maximum of probably 16v. Sending 24v (or 28v when running) to the coil will almost certainly damage the coil. Maybe not the first time........ but maybe the first time! Not at all advisable.

    Strange starter behavour

Jump pack or batteries - same difference. It's a voltage source with a positive and negative. You attach a meter to the negative post, and then you start at the positive post and work your way through the circuit testing at each wire connection or component till you find the voltage drop. When...

    Strange starter behavour

What do you mean by "just after the battery"? - when you discover the first voltage drop from the battery positive post, you need to stop and address it.
