If you want to go the WWII route for tracked armor, the T16 Universal Carrier is the only real choice for price, size and performance. Certainly the "Scorpion" of its day. But like Scorpions, these are hard to find for sale.
There are many states where tracked vehicles can be street legal. As for owning a real tank, as stated, the CVR(T)s are the only ones remotely practical for all the reasons previously mentioned. Certainly the easiest tracked armor to service. I know people who have gone the BATFE Form 1 route...
There is a fitting that can be replaced with a Schrader valve. Once done, 90psi+ should turn it over just fine. We have started them directly off the shop's compressor, too. But the electric starter should work as well.
Start-up instructions for a Ferret are less complex than a 432, Stalwart or Saladin, and we have had all moved via RORO using such. These people move all kinds of equipment everyday. They know what they are doing. But I would never move anything without a CONEX unless I had to. A Ferret in a...
You guys have launched into an apples and oranges debate. The F-22 and F-35 are awesome aircraft, but first and foremost, there will never be ENOUGH of them. Second, where is the CAS/A-10 replacement? It does not exist. We are losing that capability, just as we have lost an effective CSAR...
Yes, the FV432 was originally and officially called the "Trojan". But who wants armor named for a condom, hence 432 became standard. I was asked many times why the "432" is the only Brit armor that uses a number...and that's the reason.
There are a ton of nice ones being dumped by the MoD right now. Get em while you can. Next year they'll all be gone and prices will start going up from there...
As stated already, fix it properly with replacement pats. But regarding JB Weld, in a hot but non-flex location, it it awesome. I used it on a truck engine's cracked head 16 years ago. Still holding.
Society has been dumbed down to the point, as a nation, we are in serious trouble. While many of us grew up fooling around with go karts, mini bikes, cars, etc., the current generation doesn't even ride bicycles. School sports and video games is all they know. No independent learning skills and...
You would not want such a wheel for off-road use for several big reasons. 1. you can't adjust and vary the pressure to control your footprint. 2. There is no sidewall traction for rocks and ruts. 3. Imagine the weight of those clogged up with mud...
Indeed, this is true. But it is all within the realm. After 16 British armor vehicles, I learned the manuals are quite good and with a few good contacts on line, most everything can be tackled. Just be aware of- look up previous postings- the nightmare of the Saracen/Saladin/Stalwart...
