    Humvee 400 Amp voltage regulator

The cost of the inverter and the cost of the wiring on the 24V side would be ridiculous. You're talking an inverter that costs more than most portable generators do for even a cheap chinese one. For a quality inverter with that output, you could pretty much buy an MEP-803A For 400 amps of...

    Tire talk

unfortunately I fell for the look, as I wanted some more aggressive tires for snow and off road. Ended up with a pile of junk tires (11 from one source due to order screw ups, being shipped tires with multiple holes drilled in the sides, and finally the ones that failed in short order) Do you...

    Humvee 400 Amp voltage regulator

In theory the slave port is capable of 500 amps power. I don't know if for the HMMWV the cables connecting the slave port to the batteries are capable of that, but if you did a double run of the cables directly to the batteries (or to wherever the generator cables connect to) then in theory...

    Tire talk

the set I have on order right now from Feltz tire are sold as "2018+" for date code, so less than 5 years old. I haven't seen anyone posting issues about the BFG Baja tires having cracking issues due to age, compared to Goodyear having to send out bulletins about their tires having catastrophic...

Truck bought for parts, got it running, but…

Yes, it will deflect water also to keep the filter dry, but there should be an intake cap that prevents water from getting into the system in the first place. The paper does filter out the sand, but you don't want it all hitting the paper at high speed in a single location, or you will literally...

    Tire talk

The Goodyear MT last the best, but have the worst traction. The BFG Baja have the best traction, but wear down the fastest. You will only see a benefit to LR-E tires compared to LR-D if you're loaded heavy... very heavy. A set of LR-D tires is good for over 7k lbs per axle, so 14k for the...

    Humvee 400 Amp voltage regulator

even the 200 amp gen is good for 5kw of output, which is more than enough to make it through an emergency with the right setup.

    (stupid) pitman arm replacement question.

also to consider that the military usually limits the speed soldiers are allowed to drive them. I know in Korea we had convoy speeds limited to 35mph for 5 vehicles or less, and 25mph for more than 5 vehicles. I've driven it for a while with steering system issues, including higher speeds...

    (stupid) pitman arm replacement question.

I've done the string alignment method before, and read the method in the manuals. For a vehicle that lives off road as much as on, they are more than good enough. My truck does more on road time than off road, so it's worth the money to me to take it to a shop and have them do it. I hadn't...

    Tire talk

IF they were properly stored their entire life in a warehouse, then no, age doesn't matter as much. They have no control over how they were stored before they received them as surplus, so you don't really know if they've been properly stored their whole life. If age is important to you, Feltz...

Truck bought for parts, got it running, but…

The purpose of that plate you removed from inside the canister is to deflect sand/grit from hitting straight onto the paper air filter at high speed. Without it there if you operate in dusty/dirty conditions you may eventually sandblast a hole right through the paper filter element, and then...

    (stupid) pitman arm replacement question.

agreed. I don't expect I will be driving it except in emergency situation until the new one comes in.

    (stupid) pitman arm replacement question.

yes, I've already gone with the moog problem solver stuff for the replacement tie rod ends and idler arm. The Pitman arm I have on order from HPG is the moog problem solver version. I completely removed the nut and lock washer and looked at everything, and the pitman arm slid down on it's own...

    (stupid) pitman arm replacement question.

So my pitman arm has a lot of movement on the steering box. Probably about half an inch of up and down (maybe a little more) at the center link. The nut was a little loose holding it on, so I tightened it down to spec (185 ft lbs according to the manual) That didn't really seem to change...

MEP-803A wiring to a 50 amp plug (several questions)

I see no issues with using the miller welder in power generation mode. It's a commercial level unit to begin with, and power output on generators these days is MUCH cleaner than it was decades ago, even for the cheaper gens. The miller is also decades newer than the MEP-803A design. I wouldn't...

What have you done to your MKT this week???

newer equipment just isn't the same as the old gear driven stuff. My cousin does upholstery work and regularly buys machines that are in the 80+ year old range and still working great. All of it gear driven, not direct motor drive, so lots more power. I haven't gotten around to fixing some of...

    Please check my logic

you're checking to see what voltage you have at the glow plugs, and how long they get that voltage, then what happens afterwards when you turn the start switch to "run"

    Long Cold Start Cranking

Also, the fact that it cranks for a while then starts, and it runs properly after it starts, would suggest that it is not a fuel system issue. If it was fuel system, the outside temperature shouldn't make such a dramatic difference.

Conversion to Electric Lift Pump on HMMWV?

When these engines were designed, diesel fuel had a lot of sulfur in it, which acted as a lubricant. With the change to ULSD in the early 2000's, that lubrication went away. The fuel seller does blend in lubricants to bring it back within the federal standard, but it's still not the best...

    Long Cold Start Cranking

hard start like that is most likely glow plug issue. As 86humv said, just because the glow plugs are new doesn't mean your control box hasn't already fried them. If you see smoke while cranking then you are getting fuel. If you don't see any smoke, then it could be a fuel issue.
