Found an M51 shelter in TN

An M51 became available here in E. TN. and I got it yesterday. This M51 appears complete, and possibly never deployed since refurb years ago. Found tags such as 'preservative oil in engine', batteries removed 1996, and other parts 'preserved'. One thing is for sure, one person cannot do...

who out here has a Pinzgauer

I got a baby Pinzgauer. I want it to grow up into a radio Pinz. I think this one is stunted though. It'll probably stay a Haflinger.

    Zouts cookout vendors thread

I need one 900 x 20 tire and wheel for an M-105A2. Does not need much tread, just not too dry rotted. Thanks, looking forward to shaking some hands. Bob

    New member from Chattanooga TN

The rev'ing wide open and blowing flames indicates (to me) that your turbo has lost a seal and engine oil was being blown into the engine. Checking engine oil level will verify if it is low. Engine oil leaking out of the turbo fed the turbo fire.

    U 1300L I made it

Hi Karl, that is definitely a fine looking truck! I know you are overjoyed to have it home. What's that brown coloration on the ground? I thought your ground was white all the time? :-) Bob

    404 carb issues

There are lots of gotchas with that carb but also many reasons other than carb that a 404 mog will not start and run properly. Getting fuel to the carb is the first place to look. Disconnect the line at the carb, crank the engine and watch for fuel. If none then clean the primary fuel filter...

Southeast Mog Fest - Windrock Park, Tennessee 29 May - 1 Jun 2014

Just get a campsite and show up! The website is http://www.windrockpark.com/ Mog Central usually is centered on the Primitive campsites, those starting with P numbers. There's a bathhouse associated with those campsites. Go to the website, click Campground, then Campground Map, and look for...

    Radios, aging, and corrosion

Every piece of British Clansman radio gear I have has a dessicant pack in it. They think it works! :-) Typical sealed electronics can be baked at a little over 100 deg F to clear moisture, then add dessicant, and seal. If corrosion keeps coming back into a piece of electronics then maybe the...

Military radios that operate on 6 meter amateur band

Since you did not specify US radio equipment only, here are some other suggestions. Great Britain has recently taken their Clansman radios out of service. There are several VHF transceiver models which cover 6 meters, but one of the nicer is the PRC-351. It covers 30 MHz to just under 80 MHz...

testing the PRC-25 and PRC-77 radios

Hi, You would be surprised at how many of us got started in military 'stuff' collecting by dumpster diving and going through junk piles. Some of us still admit to it! You will never find a bigger bunch of tightwads, either, so don't be concerned about trying to keep cost down. Did you get...

    Fmtv vs unimog

This thread just shows how comparisons between rather exotic vehicles is not always possible. We are on this SS site because we like something different, otherwise we'd all be driving basic Ford/Chev/Dodge. If we rule out performance and cool factor (and all the other intangibles NOT listed in...

    "Connection reset while loading"

Is anyone else getting this error message after a screen starts loading? The page goes away and I am prompted to "try again". I do not think this is as SS forum issue Sometimes it reloads the SS page on second try, sometimes it never loads. No trouble with other web sites, but, again, I...

Odd starting behavior of S404.114 at zero degrees and below!

Hi Kyle, Your system of holding required pressure at carb input but providing a return path for excess fuel back to the tank, is a good system. Bet you don't have too much vaporlock trouble. Your system makes moot my earlier comments about the marine pump being overkill. I just added my...

    Unimog 404 or Deuce?

More sources: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/unimog/1682729-sale-wanted.html http://www.unimog.net/exchange/ There is a 404 near me for sale. This one has a nicely done dump bed. Last asking price I heard was $12k. BTW, a nice non-rusted, unmolested, 404 can bring $10k plus. Too many...

    Unimog 404 or Deuce?

This is why a Unimog is over-engineered: performance in tough terrain. This is my radio comm 404 on the Golden Crack in Moab, UT. Never had to touch the clutch. Tires never slipped. This is considered a major obstacle to most vehicles. Note the gouge marks in the rock, and tire skid marks...

    Unimog 404 or Deuce?

Changing a clutch, engine, or transmission in any of the Unimogs up until the transmission was divorced from the engine, and the cabs made to tilt, will be challenging. That's why it's worth getting a good truck to start with. The design of the whole Unimog series is definitely unique...

    Unimog 404 or Deuce?

Hi 99TCSig, A 404 is probably the best all-around 'factory' offroad vehicle ever made. No modifications required. There are loads of videos on Youtube you can watch. There aren't a lot of rock-crawling Deuces or 5-tons on there. Hills, yes, I was referring to long hills on the highway...

saving military communications gear at hamfests

Mike, I really enjoy your posts. Makes me want to drive further so I can 'do' more hamfests! The descriptions of your acquisitions are educational. Bob WB4ETT

    Unimog 404 or Deuce?

I like this quote "My whole life I have wanted a Unimog 404". :-) I believe that is your answer! You should define your use for the truck. Is it a daily driver? Need to haul heavy stuff and really need a large truck with 10 wheels/tires? Do you ever park in a 'normal' parking lot? The 404...
