Mrs. Harris,
Talk all the time is one thing Ron did well. He came down to Leesburg, Ga one time driving Swiss's M923 (5 ton) to pick up a trailer that Swiss had purchased and I hauled out to the front yard. I pulled the trailer out onto the road, disconnected it from my truck and parked in...
If it had a lot of diesel in the oil, I'd get ready to bypass the Fuel Density Compensator and replace the o-rings on the Hydraulic Head if it is a known good pump. It actually might be time to pull it and find a competent shop to go through it and freshen it up a bit. A word of advice, don't...
How long did the truck sit? Black smoke equals unburned fuel and equals high exhaust gas temps. My best guess is your are experiencing no timing advance from the governor assembly. Some good reading. https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?58845-M35a2-Timing
I voted for the most used and abused truck on Steel Soldiers. All of you have very nice vehicles and I'm sure they suit your needs. I'm partial to trucks that get used for their intended purpose or in the case of Simp, build it to suit what you want it to do.
I agree PB, we all could go on and on about stories of Ron. I think this thread is moving in a positive direction. Grief goes through a few stages and we've all gone through disbelief, slow acceptance to what has taken place and now let's fill this thread up with Joyful of Memories of Ron...
It's funny reading the back and forth experiences with Ron about trading and swapping. This last Ga Rally we made a deal to swap thimbles and outer nuts from my M923A0 for the correct lug nuts that should be used on the rear of a M939 truck with singles. He gave me all 40 lug nuts in a single...
A fellow member called me to tell me the news today. I truly regret that Ron has been taken from his family and us as his extended family. I first met him at the GA Rally 8 years ago. Many years and a ton of phone calls later I definitely considered him a good friend. He taught me quite a...
Sounds about like the NHC-250 in my 5 ton in the cold if I don't use the ether start. It can be parked for a month and fire off in 2 seconds if the temps are warm. Do you have white smoke while you are cranking when cold? If so it sounds like you're truck is doing just fine.
I agree with most of your thoughts except in my usual situation. If you have a 60K rear winch, single lining is okay and you don't have to worry much about which wrap of the drum you are on. I've never had to use a snatch block on my M984A4. Even when an MTV was mired so deep in mud that the...
Mr. Gary,
We'll be just a short walk away from your cabin, we'll be in the same one as last year. We'd love to have you over and look forward to seeing you again. Don't forget that I cook breakfast Friday and Saturday morning. I'm pretty sure we'll have PCTrans tailgate us in rolling...
I see many people would like to turbocharge an NHC-250 and I had that interest at one point as well. I may still do it someday but only because I like the sound of a turbo spooling up. Simp has hauled many heavy loads many miles on a non-turbo NHC-250 with the fuel turned up on the throttle...
OBC made the most sense for me since I have non top stops. If the injector is down and the rockers are loose, adjust those valves. Go to the "companion cylinder" and adjust the injector. On inline 6 diesels the companion cylinder always equals 7. 1-6, 2-5, 3-4. I was confused early on...
I'm hoping this issue gets resolved soon. I'm waiting on paperwork to come through so I can pick up 4 of these for members on here. I thought it would have happened before December and I would have had a chance to get 4 more trucks running and on there way home to the Proud new owners. One...
My issue turned out to be the injection pump itself but had similar symptoms. I'm not saying that is your issue, I'd start with the basics as others have pointed out. The stock cartridge fuel filter base has a known leak location with a pretty simple fix. 3 options, (1) remove the fuel...
Jimm1009, a bad airpack would show on all drums since it's a single circuit design in a perfect world. You perhaps have a broken brake shoe spring allowing the brake shoe to stay engaged to some extent. It wouldn't take much friction running down the road to heat stuff up. I recently had a...
Going with the Parade Ready look this time. Member Welder1 gets credit for the Flag mount, he had to go with a rather long pole to ensure the Flag does not contact the hood as per code.
Maybe your passenger side rears were spinning and you just couldn't see? Press the Mode button on the the shifter pad to lock the transfer case, light should stay solid. The LMTV / MTV series are similar to the M939 trucks, they power the rears by default and need some operator involvement to...
One last item you will need is a method for actuation in case the fan is actually needed. I see you're in Washington state so it might not need the fan at all except for in stop and go traffic. That's the only time it comes on in my M923, stop and go traffic in the summer on really hot days...
The only reliable way I know to ensure it's making it to the injectors would be to remove the return line. There are two steel lines going into the front cylinder head, trace the lower one back to a T-fitting just below the intake manifold. Disconnect the left line and crank away to see if you...
