It can be done, but the belt driven cooling fan on the M939 series can pull up to 15hp from the engine at speed. This is 15hp worth of cooling airflow. You can just hear it roaring, even from inside the cab. If you want to match it's capability, you can't just use something from Summit Racing...
Florida.... is right. I watched this video on Eaton’s site which explained their Detroit Locker operation.

Ramped dogs allow an axle to over-run and spin faster, but not slower, than the diff RPM. So...
*SHIELD UP* Yes. I have a 2005 EFI 4 valve Cummins 400hp RV ISL engine hooked to a Roadranger 13 speed with dual disc clutch and hydraulic clutch release from a Freightliner Cascadia, sitting on the shop floor at my work, not (yet) installed. From the little I have seen and know, 2 others have...
Are you sure the rack is stuck? The rack goes to full throttle once the engine stops, and the governor pulls it back once running. I’m not doubting you, just a thinking check.
Do it, then we can all learn, and I’ll erase my errant guesses. I have two of them on a shelf at work as well I never installed, I’ll see if I can study them tomorrow. Wonder if the 5t vs automotive ones are different in operation?
Really want the air locker axles from the fire truck...
Here, it cranks so good it fires instantly:
He keeps his stuff in A1 shape as well, as can be seen.
Note: It drastically changes the cranking sound. Listen in the vid, it sounds like a 2019 Kenworth turning over. As long as you are OK with that, they are decades ahead in technology content.

Apology, I don’t have that data. I only have it for the 8.3 and LDT 465, as I don’t have access to a Cummins NHC 250 855 engine like your truck should have.
I’ll try to find a video a member took, same basic truck as yours. Cranks great. I got your note, will call you later tonight.
Are you sure it is not just the throttle and linkage?
Anything else damaged? I’d guess a sticking rack could be caused by water laden fuel, or an engine overheat.
Pretty low cost to have a shop give your pump a tune up. Great time to turn it up and advance the timing on it as well, if...
Traction control typically doesn’t apply the brakes as much as pull off the throttle, via a simple comparison of front vs rear wheel speed. Since the ABS on our trucks are rear only, and no electronic throttle control, it would be a pretty far reach to obtain.
Brand new gear reduction 12v starter is $150 delivered, 24v is $250 delivered. Available for LDT/S 465, Cummins 8.3L, Cummins 855, possible for 8V92 DD.
Thanks swb, yeah they are great. 1/3 smaller, half the weight, less current draw, and tested to over 50,000 starts. Stock starter is pretty robust unlike the alternator, but for those that are changing anyway or simply want the best then this is where it is at, especially for cold climates or...
If the alternator got hot enough to melt aluminum, then there is a dead short in it somewhere. Likely the diode bridge in the back, but at those temps it can melt the varnish off the copper wires of the stator as well. Best and safest thing to do is yank the pulley and ditch the rest of it for...
For the 250, the latest craze is to slot the 3 holes of the stock bracket on a mill. This allows you to align it easily. Still does not support it properly, but seems to work for most.
I always intended to find a bracket for that engine as well, but never did. It was usually done by the...
