@MatthewWBailey considering that its only for emergency purpose relatively speaking I guess that I won't be surprised if perhaps indeed noone knew it was put back on wrong till the one day someone does need it and it doesn't work
classic willy in holland? why not?! (i admit that technically they probably already were there in quite a sizeable number 80 years ago you know..)
either way @SES nice photo and again welcome to this forum
@tmuenster although its a bit of 'orange and apple' thing at times the same applies to a lot of other mechanical stuffs, cue an industrial-designed 4-banger diesel refitted for vehicle usage being a slow powerplant but would last well over 200k miles versus a car manufacturer designed 4-banger...
@tommys2patrick i don't want to give you any crazy idea but if you're very curious about "being armed" in the water you simply need to check out australia aka this: https://www.ausbg.org .. just read the fun part located below the 'learn more' link
its a bit of a wild hobby thats for sure, and...
i don't even know what to say about a hmmwv even less your own personal preferences, but even then i have to say that having a passengerside fender mirror sometimes seem ideal as that lets you see whats just coming up your right side without having to lose as much forward focus anytime in the...
In regarding to @KN6KXR theres "one little catch", the m930-series had airbrakes so thats likely why it wasn't an issue for typical cdl, the m35/m36 on other hand are basically hydraulic [just to keep english simple] which would had possibly likely be a sort of "light truck with no airbrake...
and for a model train transformer(controller) that refuses to behave/function, drop it into a steel drum and beat the hell out of it!
(thats where I originally heard the idea some many years ago but the same expression can honestly pretty much apply to anything both electronics and...
offtopic but I have to say thats interesting dashboard/console panel there. and heh to regarding idling the engine for a bit, theres a certain old lawn tractor with hydraulic drive (16hp gas-carb engine with a decayed muffler bolted onto front of radiator) that if you drop the engine throttle to...
i don't have anything specific to say about suspensions but i'll note that in at least one type of suspension you still have the classic leafs but then at one of either end of the leaf is an airbag setup instead of direct leaf-to-chassis shackle attachment
as a small sop, this particular turbine-powered fixed-consist trainset by Amtrak in USA had a bit of checkered life lasting only several years long

but the one thing that reminded me of them again was @Mullaney referring...
be lucky you don't have a trailer, as I was telling someone about cold cummins engine - the same trucking book author also mentioned that having to deal with flat spots on tires till they had warmed up was one thing but to back into an equally-frozen trailer was double the punishment with two...
an aussie tatra? must be first time I have heard of that myself
humour aside, seriously tho i've had a small interest in the 'hooded' tatra for quite a long time by now (sometimes I wonder if theres any not-russia-language book on them but mm) as the 100-series is a very long generation of...
never seen many fuel heaters but have always liked them in general tho, seriously plan on one for my upcoming truck (whether the heater unit is an ex-military used one or a new/used commercial truck one is up for eventual debate but mm) as well
nothing like just a little bit of power draw and...
interesting little vehicle thats for sure..
even then i'm curious if the jerry can 'shelf' is a factory or diy one there? and hmm looking at the beefy/continuous rails I just have to wonder if thats an engine-powered winch on it?
and it looks like they basically ripped the entire factory body off immediately behind the engine and put their own on instead (although I could hope that these are not factory-provided fender panels..or thats pretty much very minimal protection for sideway weapon fire at-to the engine itself...
and hey @NY Tom don't forget to include the PRR GG1 as a 'honourable steam-era electric locomotive' too if you would like..or to recount;
body and/or chassis was built at a shop that did steam locomotive tenders,
spoked wheels just like steam locomotives,
cast iron bell,
hot in summer and cold...
not to be too offtopic here but @HDN right now I somewhat recall these two (theres more but my memory is a little stuck up tonight) particular interesting older locomotive quirks and maybe these are a bit related to certain military trucks too;
long inline engine that were known a few times to...
