Against my wife’s will I’m thinking about getting another 5 ton and am looking into shipping charges from just east of Phoenix AZ to Las Cruces NM. It’s an 809 series 5 ton and runs.
It’s been a little while but I believe I put the transfer case in neutral and the transmission in 5th gear. I used a big box end wrench on the yolk of the Jack shaft. I was underneath turning while my wife was watching the pointer up on top.
This is not a timing cover if you are referring to the fuel control wire which I believe you are. Take the safety wire off and loosen the two screws just a bit so the lever snaps back to the 7:00 every time. You might need to spay a little carb cleaner in also if it’s gummed up.
Replacing the head is fairly straight forward and simple. The hardest part for me was getting the injection lines broken loose after years.
Biggest thing to remember is that once the (hopefully red pointer) is lined up the head slips right out. If it’s not coming out then your not lined up...
I had a Colman pop up that I absolutely loved camping in as long as it wasn’t too hot. It didn’t have a/c. I camped all the way down to 0 degrees in it. My wife prefers the big trailer with shower and a/c but to me it’s not really camping.
I can’t identify a single part on that truck!!! There’s no rust or dirt or random wires??? I’d hate to touch it because I would be afraid I would get it dirty!!!
Seriously I’m jealous!! That’s one clean truck.
Just for my own information..what exactly fails on a HH beside possible cracks in the head itself? Seems like most could be cleaned up without having to replace them.
I’m stumped on this one...It’s weird that the the truck runs great once it’s started but won’t start in the first place. I phoned a guy that’s worked on these for many years and he says it’s got to be something really simple...fuel pick up, air, battery amps etc.. otherwise it would be running...
Just to be clear I mean put the pop up side ways in the bed of a deuce/5 ton /LMTV. I think if you found one the right size and took the axles off it would fit nicely and still leave around 6-8 feet of space on the bed.
You wouldn’t have any clearance issues while it was down but you would...
Just throwing it out there...has anyone put a small pop-up camper in the back? The pop up would be sideways and the beds would slide out the side. Seems like with the bed length it might even give you a little storage/porch space on the back of the truck.
They were like that when I bought it. It took me four months to get it running and then I sold it. Truck did great in the sand with the tires like that though. I would really like to buy it back but my wife would kill me. It needs a lot of work/parts from lights to mirrors and everything...
