Yeah, I have a bunch to cut as well. Am removing the underrider. The rules allow it :)
"Underride protection and protective devices
The underride protection may be removed on back and side. The fitting of protective devices against mechanical damage to the vehicle is optional."
Yes, right where the smooth round collar meets the nut face. Just like cutting off a normal bolt. You only have to cut 3/4 of the way through, then a sharp strike with a hammer will break it off. Then you can push the bolt out with your finger easily. I used a 10-dollar HF die grinder with...
I am currently up to my eyeballs in discussions of Commerciality with our Government. The availability for commercial purchase, and onesey-twosey examples of commercial use are necessary but insufficient justification. The end use has to be a typical, usual application for commercial designation.
Yes, such a system would be paired with a straight 24V alternator. We have discussed that somewhere before; I like the idea of using a common alternator from CAT construction equipment. I am anxious to road test with that configuration to flush out any unintended consequences.
A small 12v battery from a motorcycle or lawn mower application connected to the 12v side of the DC-DC converter would buffer a converter outtage for a little while. I only mention that as I have done it with a Todd Engineering 160 VDC to 14 VDC converter successfully. The application was an...
I have purchased 5 trucks here in Tucson from Jack's Govt Surplus : 2 M1009s, M109A3 M35A3 , and the LMTV. My next project is an M715 Kaiser. Now, as many will attest here, Jack has no bargains. He DOES however, offer rust-free vehicles with clean AZ title and a warranty. Worth the premium to...
I put it on the scales. Note that the front and rear axle weights total about 3000 lbs less than stock, because of all the stuff I removed. The bed being the lion's share of the weight loss. The 3rd axle weight is the weight over the dolly axle. Add about 250 lbs for the "tongue weight", that...
I am having trouble picturing that. I believe you, just don't know what that looks like. Once the dolly is connected to the toy hauler, it does not have to be disconnected: the decoupling happens at the pintle. So yeah, making it one would work.

Front bumper to pin is 30 ft.
Reversing is impossible. Perhaps a professional driver with doubles experience could, but I'm not that guy. I used to laugh at those videos of guys ramping trailers/boats into the water, not so funny now ;)
I use the Converter Dolly. That way I do not have the 5th wheel on the truck. Commercial pin and RV pin are same diameter. The dolly has air brakes and landing gear.
Yes, it looks like this:
It replaces the spider gears in the rear differential.

Happy 2022 to you as well.
I am currently experimenting with Monroes:
Implementing these requires using a bushing + smaller diameter bolt on the bottom side. I do not think there is enough meat on the shock eye itself to hog it out to use stock mounting hardware. The claim on the interweb is...
Good morning,
I do not have a write up, but I will create a short video of that. Just off the top of my head:
Rears were easy as there is no interference with the hard mudflaps attached to the bed as it is removed. The rear rubber mudflaps are relocated to behind the under-rider using the...
Good morning,
The seats are JEGS GS-1, not very expensive. See
I have read that Toyota Sienna seats are an easy retrofit, but best to check the fora (forums?). I prefer to comment only on stuff that I have actually done.
I should say the action of the rear leaf has been removed as I did not...
As I drove around town today, getting a new Director's Certificate from the ADOT smog station, I reflected on all the mods I have made to the truck. Some stuff we do makes no difference, some stuff makes things worse, but here is a list of mods that I am really, really glad I did:
Upgrade the...
