Trying to chase the cause of offset steering wheel.

Just thinking, have you checked the steering box frame bolts? Or for frame cracks in the same area? One area that shall have blue locktite on the 3 bolts to keep them from backing out.

Trying to chase the cause of offset steering wheel.

Just out of curiosity did you push the sway bar down to the mounting holes? I would agree that the leaf spring has been stressed. I have had them far worse and put in my press and "straightened " back as best I could. Are they the same? Well never but do you want to buy spring packs all the...

    Gen 1 & 2 dash lights

Great Idea! Just a thought I wonder if spray copper coat would "glue in place" the strip and make contact also?

Trying to chase the cause of offset steering wheel.

Lost part of my post. After backing off I noticed that the axle had racked off to the right because of the spring pack had shifted on the front spring eye bushings and the sway bar bushings were holding it in place. After racking the axle back I looked at why and seen that the springs distorted...

Trying to chase the cause of offset steering wheel.

Have the upper king pin bushings been replaced? Have the lower bearing packs been inspected in the spindle? How about the swaybar bushings, has the sway bar moved in bushing, racking frontend? I went to the quarry and was driving over a boulder pile and when I got off the rock pile I noticed...

I think maybe it is just to see if the old Girl has it anymore rustystud. And there are plenty of those kind of mmm I was going to say Drivers but will say steering wheel holders on the road to be concerned about. You know I have had at one time a 38, 49, now Dads 50, now presently a 56, all...

    Guilty Pleasure

Looks Great and it does help with ingress egress. The one good thing that GM added are grabhandles. Having 80's trucks I still have Diamond Plate running boards around somewhere in the garage. Also pulling on tilt steering wheel, after a couple years I am retightening the column bolts. Maybe...

New to me 1009 will not start

If there is water, antifreeze, then you are on a teardown condition. Headgasket, or worse cracked block from freeze out, cracked cylinder head, probable. When clearing the fuel line you may have pumped a cylinder with some fuel. Pull glowplugs and that will relieve pressure, fluid in cylinder.

New to me 1009 will not start

Welcome, When going through some maintenance items did you look at or check the radiator for antifreeze? I am with Tinstar and pull the glowplugs out. They are pretty good indicators for the condition of starting. Hydrolock is when there is fluid in the cylinder that can not be compressed and...

How can I stop melting terminals?

After further thought, rut roh, doghead has a serious thought that I would look at first myself, chaffing cables, wires. That will happen on all equipment no matter how new or old it is. Bulkheads with any kind of power source going through SHALL HAVE a rubber, plastic grommet inserted in side...

How can I stop melting terminals?

I like using NAPA chem washers and their protective spray, red color just like frank8003 used on his terminals. If you look at his pictures you can see the red stain from the spray that helps with corrosion and ark track, dirt on the surface of the battery that drains the positive terminal...
