Making this thread to document what I have done to convert my newly acquired M116A3 over to tow with my civilian truck. Also wanted to document repairs I have done & sources for parts.
Got the trailer to mount my MEP-802A on & add my own things to make it an easy tool for power & fuel at my off...
Great links, thank you! I don't think it is bad... I'm willing to bed there is little or no fluid in there. Hasn't been a priority to work on that part of it yet. Road legal was first. Mounting generator is second. Then I'm going to fix up the brake system. These links will be helpful along with...
Got it all figured out & finished yesterday. Will update with pictures later.
Apparently the required hook-up with the 7 pin harness I had was different. I noticed that the cover on my truck connection had what each pin was supposed to connect too. Confirmed with multimeter & changed up...
So, I started working on the trailer. Used the information I found here on the forum & wired up the 7 pin RV type connector that I ordered. Matched the green wire to 22460, Yellow to 22461, Brown to 21, & white to ground. Put in the proper 12v bulbs to the existing housing. Only the right side...
So I placed an order with eTrailer. Got an adjustable pintle hitch. I have one already but it's a bolt on type. Since I will need to adjust more with this new trailer, it was my excuse to buy the quick adjustable one so it's easy to hook up to any of my trailers. Ordered the 7 pin wire pigtail &...
Yes, it's almost funny! Then add a few more if you want the commercial Lister manuals. I added the one for the M116A3 to my files that Zed254 referenced above.
I ended up just ordering the one in the post above yours that I linked too. Downloaded the TM you referenced & it will cover other stuff I needed... thank you very much!
Started looking at TM 9-6115-659-13&P & it seems like this trailer was from a PU-797 setup. In that TM, I can't find the parts diagram for the tongue jack. I'd just replace it with a commercial one, but everything with it works find except the missing handle for cranking it. Is there is a...
Thanks for that link on eTrailer. I found one that was a plug & play on eBay but I have no problem making my own for 60% less. Found the thread on here for the wiring on the trailers. Will be extremely helpful!
I did see the thread with the bulb conversions. Going to go with LED so I only need...
So, this happened yesterday after work... $550. The only thing I could find wrong is the handle for the tongue jack is missing & the original pin for the rear kickstand.
Trying to figure out if I want to convert the lights & harness on it or just take them off to put a regular set of LED...
Wanted to add this to the thread... seems dumb to people with experience but when I was first looking at surplus generator sets, I had no idea.

Two of the proper generator trailers popped up on Marketplace. One is only two towns over. Person is asking $1,500 but I have them talked down to $600.
Pictures look like it's in good shape.
I saw a lot of potential for modifications as well. I want the trailer to ultimately be a hook up & go with everything needed plus some on it. For my own uses at the off grid place, or when a disaster hits & neighbors need help.
My truck has 35in tires, so the trailer would ride pretty level...
I already removed the door catches & the tie down rings. Those were very noisy. The latches on mine are very tight so that wasn't an issue.
I want the proper trailer due to the tire size & axle. I tow mine 450 miles round trip each time I use it. Those Harbor Freight trailers will not last with...
Spent 4 days this past weekend out at my off grid place. Generator is up to about 208 hours now. Ran fine. Slight fuel leak came back. Still a bit of a coolant leak from the overflow bottle. Both I'm not terrible worried about for a machine that is 25 years old, though, I would like to fix them...
Well, got about 28 hours on it this past weekend. No real big problems.
Battery hold downs I made just weren't doing the job as I liked so I went ahead & did order the Ballistic Fabrication ones. Installed them yesterday after painting them.
Way better than what I made. Super solid. Just...
