I believe you have an M1008 and not a m1009. Those U-joints are for a truck. I believe there are four u joints to do 7 locations on your vehicle, so you should be correct. If you google, U-joint repacement kit 1980-1987 chevrolet K-30 4WD - Moog , they have everything you need to know about your...
I am going to say this believing that you already know, since you said a small amount of ether. Not a good solution to your starting problem. My guess is that your getting air into your fuel system. Check for rotted fuel lines and any place fuel might be leaking. Get a flashlight and go over...

According to Keith J you have a foreign IP that does not work on any CUCV. Once you get the right Injection pump on there you should be able to start that baby up! The only thing on a CUCV that is 24 volt is the starter.
The glow plugs are always 12 volts at the glow plugs themselves. With or without the dog head conversion. The dog head conversion just by passes the resistor coils on the firewall witch drop the volts down from 24 volt to 12 volts. Good work, doing good.
Maybe a head gasket? Get a flashlight warm up the engine and check all around the heads. If they are seeping you will be able to see it. It could be leaking at the rear of the head or on top.
These vehicles have gone up in value considerably. Whatever money you spend, will be a good investment. The doghead relay will not set you back much. Breath life back into that truck and you will be glad you did.
Man Keith, you are on top of it. Good work on figuring out all that is going on with the injection pump. You are truly a wealth of information. Good job and Thanks for your time and help on this site. Good man!
I always enjoy reading your posts. You are a very knowledgeable and explain things in depth. I learn something from you almost every post you make.

I sandblasted a house one time, until I realized how far the sand spread onto adjoining properties. After that we went to 6500 psi pressure washer with a rotating nozzle. Those nozzles can eat a hole right through the stucco if you held it in one place long enough. Much better way to go. less...
I have never run those tires before, but I can tell by the direction of the tread pattern, those would be the ultimate off road tire. Excellent paint job, looks like factory camo pattern.
