If you don't want to get new connectors, you could reverse your setup, with the cable coming out of the panel (assuming that's legit in your area), and the receptacle installed on the generator. That is how I set up my 802, since I use it for other uses besides backup power, so I can just plug...
Is that pin and sleeve connector a male or female receptacle? The one in your post looks like a female receptacle, and male plug. You don't want to have hot pins on the plug, if the male end is on the generator. That would create a potential safety/shock hazard.
Basler makes excellent equipment, although also with an "excellent" price tag. Dewy must have liked their quality AVR's, since my four MEP-531A's all came with a Basler AVR.
Do you have the amp meter selector set to the correct position? Is the machine configured for 1 or 3 phase? Try rotating the amp meter switch to try and clean it up; spray some contact cleaner in it if you have any. If it doesn't help, try connecting your load to a different lug, and see if the...
Since you got it with so much oil that it was pouring out, I suspect the previous owner overfilled the crankcase with oil. Drain some of it out, to the middle of the markings on the dipstick (with the dipstick screwed in). The Yanmar 48's are very sensitive to too much oil, and will run like...
When you say filling the crankcase with fuel" , how much fuel are you getting in there? There are only two ways for fuel into the crankcase; through the pump, or past the piston/rings. The pump only pumps about a drop per injection cycle. You would have to crank the engine for quite a while to...
and I think it is the check valve that is stuck shut.
The little part sticking out the right side of the part you are pointing at, is the check valve (delivery valve). That part should freely move within the part you are pointing at (valve seat). If it's stuck (usually gummed up), soaking it in...
Just some random thoughts I am throwing out here. - Do the commercial units have the control panels (excitation controls)? From a safety perspective the voltage is what is dangerous for you. The high KVA/Amp ratings only make problems more spectacular. (We used to power construction sites and...
That sludge looks the same I had in my T-stat housing and water pump (802A) when I opened it. It is gelled leak sealer. Apparently my unit had a leak at the hose to radiator connection, and someone filled the unit with leak stop, instead of soldering the radiator inlet pipe. This stuff cleaned...
If it's being bogged down by the generator, it's either mechanical or an electrical overload. I doubt it's mechanical, since you would hear that and most likely see sparks. To rule out a generator internal electrical problems I would disconnect the voltage regulator, and tape off the leads, then...
Thank you for sharing that info. Definitely beats $650 for four from the Gov. supplier. I just ordered some off their site as well. Here is the page that shows the brush (last one on the page).

That's an understatement. I just (4 May) received a quote from Aerobase for 4 (Four) spare brushes. $159.99 ea. 4 for $639.96. Over $600 for four pieces of glorified pencil lead!
Question: You say - when manipulating throttle anything over half throttle it dies out - Are you manually holding the throttle to start the engine? On the 531's, the throttle lever is either on - latched, or off -tripped.
Some things to think about:
The pegged hertz gage - do you have a way...
More filter parts. I just searched e-bay for a new filter and multiple listings for a filter, bowl and gasket came up, for less than $20 for the set. Search for " New Yanmar Fuel Filter with O-ring & BOWL 104500-55710 ".
Have you tried removing the stainless steel spark arrester on the muffler. If that is plugged it could cause too much backpressure at full throttle. This is the easiest test before you dig into the machine further.
I found a company "Hoye Tractor Parts", that has most of these parts. I just ordered a complete filter unit for one of my MEP-531A's that came without one. They also have a video of how to bleed this system (on a tractor). Kind of messy; At least I put a can under it when I bleed the system...
Glad you got it working. Someone, within the last two weeks posted a vendor for the brushes. There is also a thread with p/n for the brush parts. If I find it I will post the info here. Looks like you got a good unit.
The Volt & Hertz meter on the 531A is upstream of the breaker, so they will read if your generator is making power, even with the breaker off. The diode you mentioned acts as a surge suppressor across the shunt trip coil in the breaker.
The breaker shunt trip coil is controlled by the A2 engine...
