Yeah it's a PIA getting it dialed in. I always have someone behind while I adjust them saying whether they go on/off. I question some of the part design logic on these hmmwv's sometimes.

For anyone else coming across this thread, here is a side by side pic of the old vs new support bracket for reference.
New bracket is the one in my hand. If you install and the starter bolt holes dont line up. Take a small torch heat the bracket at the hook part and give it a couple taps...
Having fixed this problem before. It's more than likely a bad bendix gear on the starter. Given that it whirls after engaging. Bendix or the solenoid is the issue.
I've rebuilt the starter before and replaced the bendix gears. If you got the cash I'd look on fleabay for a new rebuilt that...
I would disagree.... I have 3, restored and sold 7 and drive mine every day for 4 years now and will never go back to my grand cherokee. If I want leather seats, I can drive the wife's range rover velar which I like less compared to my Humvees :)

Its slow for sure. We drive one of ours 140 miles back and forth to new orleans often. It's not necessarily a headache, just slow which can cause a headache sometimes for long trips ;)... for what you describe you'll be fine for that short distance.

If not, you can probably bring them a HEX or...
Only the commercial/industrial stores carry it. I buy it in new Orleans all the time which is the only place in LA that sells it. You should have no problem getting single gallons... ill forward you my store contacts info and he can easily get you in touch with a store that will sell it to you...
Its possible the solenoid is going bad. I just replaced 2 on some builds. Alot of times on the starter itself a good cleaning of the armature does wonders. The two I fixed had your same issue, fyi...

There is a bleed screw on top of the fuel filter... if you crack that open while cranking the engine it will suck fuel back in and should get you going.
