M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

Great catching up with you, too! You left just in time, hope the rain didn't catch up to you on the way. It came down a frog-strangler right after the Apache left. Cheers

    CUCV painted military yellow?

Lots of military fire trucks are painted plain old yellow. But CUCVs, and other vehicles, seem to have also been painted odd colours. Pawnshop's M1009 was pink when it was bought at auction. We figured it had to be very faded red, but no, in the shaded areas that never saw sunlight - rosy...

B-29 "Doc" Awarded New Airworthiness Certificate

While the PB4Y-2 is derived from the B-24, it was a new aircraft and looks pretty different. However, the early PB4Y-1 was essentially just a B-24D in Navy markings. Later PB4Y-1s had the Erco ball turret mounted in the nose, but were still virtually identical to USAAC B-24s. Pic 1 is an...

I got the M1082 trailer home. Looks good behind the 5 ton.

That looks familiar! This picture is from a Touch-a-Truck event we did on Camp Mabry saturday to benefit the Austin Childrens Shelter (raised $14,000 for them last year). Love the trailer, though mine is intended to go behind the M813 more often than the 931. By the way, should the mood...

    PB4Y-2 Privateer (Consolidated)

Yeah, baby! Always loved all the turrets and bumps. Just saw the one in Pensacola (that is a wonderful museum!). Saw one in the museum in Galveston a couple of years ago, they were restoring that one. Cheers

I second that recommendation, good book. A quick story about Hartman, told to me by a buddy's dad, John Sr., who was RAF and there at the time- During the development of the Harrier, the Tripartite evaluation squadron was formed, comprised of British, American, and West German personnel (the...

Okay, that is a positively strange song! I only knew one song of theirs, but it was rather strange too (Don't Fear the Reaper). That one from waaaaay back in my high school days. Cheers

    Greater Houston-area Events

Michael - sorry it didn't work out for any of the locals from up this way to attend. Lots of interest, just too many prior commitments. But we're game to try again for the next one! Y'all have fun. Cheers

    Help with Identifying.

That type cab/hood was often used on M37's converted to diesel power (civilian post-military use). Not the most attractive, but still pretty cool, and in my opinion could probably be visually improved by adding some M37 detail parts around the lights, etc. Hood hinges at bottom front. Cheers

Last time I saw the Smithsonian's 262, it was at the National Air and Space Museum in DC. The Me-262 I've seen most recently was in the Naval Aviation museum on NAS Pensacola (last month). I've also seen them at the Evergreen Air Museum in Oregon (a couple of years ago), the RAF Museum at...

Ah...thank you. My question was based on the video title "original sound" part, which would suggest the original engines, in an original aircraft. I thought it rather high a risk to fly it with engines that were fire prone, and not highly reliable. Such factors are acceptable in a war, but...

    Deuce in Gulf War pic

Complete paperclips look like this. Very common on USMC trucks. You can see where they got the nickname. Cheers

That is cool! Original engines? I wonder, because they were very prone to catching fire from fuel pooling in the nacelles. After that, I had to watch the Airpower 2016 video that popped up at the end. Lots of "in the cockpit" video. Interesting two-hands-on-stick flying technique. Cheers

B-29 "Doc" Awarded New Airworthiness Certificate

I have an uncle who flew two WWII combat tours in the Pacific in B-25s, then transitioned to the B-29. They were island hopping the B-29 squadron across the Pacific to their assigned combat base when Japan surrendered, so he never flew the B-29 "in anger", though they were used as transports...

HEMTT info, just passing it along.

MK48s and their kin were retired and replaced by the LVSR (MKR15/16/17 et al), so as Gunzy said, no rebuild program there. Cheers

New to group - just bought a 404s

You should be fine with the stock setup. My Swiss 404 has no overheating problems in central Texas with daily 100*+. Where you WILL have issues with heat is in the axles/hubs if you try to run extended high-speed (over 55mph). 404s are slow, and like it that way, they do not like long...

    M116A2 Expedition Trailer Build

Torrential rains and 70mph winds have passed over us, just heavy rain now. Other than a few branches down, doesn't like any damage here. So... Glad to help, and I enjoy the road trips. Thanks for feeding me! (I should have a sign like reloader64's "I work for food") With my...

    The Awesome B-54 Ultrafortress

Yes, TobyS. I've always been of the opinion that WWII started the day the Treaty of Versailles was signed. The Allies learned the lesson though, which is why so much was done to rebuild the former-Axis nations after WWII. The current state of the world economy, and what it is based on...
