Spoke too soon.
When I went to pick it up, it started up just fine, idling at 800. On the highway in a couple minutes and it's feeling pretty good, first light I come to, I put it in neutral well before the light (I don't downshift when slowing down, it's a pita enough shifting in this truck to...
Got my truck back from having air lockers installed. While it was there I had them mount a second fuel tank on the driver's side. The lip from the tool box had to be cut flush with the box, and the step into the cab had to be trimmed back as well. This is an 81 gallon tank.
Also had an air...
Don't know OP's age, but after driving a few thousand miles, I've really gotten used to the armstrong steering even at slow speeds, I just need the truck to move any speed and I can turn the wheel. I don't feel that power steering is necessary unless everything else is done and you've got an...
Ok, so the guy was busy all week and got back into to it today. He tried a few things and in the end replaced the filters & cleaned a fuel line at the same time and the problem went away. So, I guess there was debris somewhere.
It'll be good to get it back, my neighbors are probably sighing...
Of my 13 points above, #1 is mounted, but not hooked up, #'s 4, 5 & 8 are done, and I expect to have #7 & 11 done in a month or two. Since I made this list, I've also added air lockers and hope to have door locks by the end of the month. I've gotten some of the sound insulation installed, but...
I was researching isolation mounts for my cab mounted computer and came across a manufacturer that may be worth looking at. I would think for the deuce application, as long as it meets the specs it doesn't have to be a military part (unless you need that for your restoration). Anyways, maybe...
Certainly it's possible that a repair made 3 years ago could have a bearing on this situation, however I would like to first look at things that are likely to have happened related to the installation of the new HH and the adjustment of the idle. In short, check the most likely suspects and...
Yeah, he's a mechanic, he's just never worked on this type of truck before. Most of the work he's done for me hasn't involved the engine, once you get past the engine it starts looking like some other trucks (albeit, older ones).
I will freely admit that I am no mechanic. I research and...
Some background:
The truck is at a mechanic getting some misc. work done. Right now I have more money than time, and some things are beyond my ability.
One of the things done was to swap a new hydraulic head as the old one had a leak (I sent him a link to how it was done here - also he...
If you have a good concrete surface you can get one of these wheel dollies, they're rated usually over 1k lbs:
Used expect to pay ~$250+
I have one, but a friend showed me a trick using a pneumatic jack and I don't use mine. Line the wheel with the hub and raise it until the wheel just rests...
I did a 20 min search on FRP SIP panels. Mostly I come up with manufacturers that don't list prices which doesn't always mean that they won't sell small quantities, but I'd want to find one in my area to avoid freight. I did find some snippets on a couple of sites, one that has thickness of...
It's in Tukwila, near Southcenter Mall. They don't have any samples for the 1/4" so I'm just gonna go there, probably next week, to take a look at the sheets. They carry other panels so I figure I'll just look around. They don't list weights/prices on their web site which is a little...
Ok, so, I started looking at marine grade plywood which I discovered is really just plywood with a waterproof glue. It's also a little heavier than standard plywood. Regular 1/4", 4' x 8' plywood comes in at 22lbs (on average) and marine would be 27lbs, it's also about around $2 sq/ft, give or...
I made this thread for ideas, not for gatekeeping. I am not questioning anyone's credentials or dismissing someone out of turn. I'm sorry I don't know who you are or your credentials. I'm not here to make something for the public or an awards show, this is my own private use and it's a...
Found 6 for $5.65 on Amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KXDC4PP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Worked out well for me as I have 3 batteries.
I looked at I beams, even small ones are too big. I'm already pushing 11'+ and I'm gonna be mounting things from the ceiling, I don't want to stoop when walking around. I'm making the crawl space as low as I can but need it to be high enough to have the fuel tank (it'll be a fuel cell) work...
