    Sound Insulation

The material I'm using has a self-adhesive backing. If it comes off, well, I'll just worry about that when it happens. I'm sure it will over time, but I open the hood enough that I'll probably notice if it starts to come loose.

    Sound Insulation

I thought I'd apply the .067" sound insulation to both sides of the firewall. I know I won't be able to get complete coverage on the engine side but I figure it might help. Part of the purpose of the insulation in the engine bay is to redirect (bounce) the sound and this is what I'm hoping to...

    Sound Insulation

This is gonna be an ongoing thread as I want to include both the hood and the cab. My general plan is a thin underlay followed by something thicker. For the hood, I also plan on doing the firewall, at least with the thinner layer. Then a thicker hood liner I did a bit of searching on the web...

Sound insulating the hood - added weight

So, I'm putting 2 layers of sound insulation under the hood and after the first layer it's really added a bit of weight to the hood. I'll have to install a handle as it's now a bit harder to lift. I'm also concerned about the hinges. Those that have added a hood liner and/or sound insulation...

    Mud flap

My mud flaps are 19" off the ground. Some of the states call for as low as 6".

    Mud flap

Yeah, I'm thinking I'll head to the local hardware store, see what they have for heavy rubber, buy a piece 21" x 48" and cut it in half.

    Mud flap

Looking at the mud flap and regulations around the country, I realize it's too short. Now, I don't expect I'd get pulled over...unless a cop was behind me and a rock flew into their windshield. So, the mud guards behind my wheels are 21" wide, which appears to be a non-standard size in the...

    First step - cab rebuild

I bribe the neighbor with cookies and candies from time to time. Height isn't a consideration because once I build the camper I'll be even higher! Most bridges in the US have a 13' clearance and I'll be around 11' when I'm done - if need be, I'll take another route. As to trips in the woods...

    First step - cab rebuild

Got the truck back, today. The roof rack is 18 inches tall. The stack height is about where I expect the top of my camper will be when it's built. The guy didn't put the HEMMT seats in because he couldn't figure out how to do it. He didn't even put in the passenger seat - I suspect he just...

m35a3 air intake on the m35a2

I did a web search for an a3 cap and couldn't find one. I did find a hmmwv cap which is listed as 4.65 inches (outer) diameter and I think I might try that. Considering it sits over the top I'm not worried about any incidental moisture getting in there. Just found this, says it fits a 5 inch...

m35a3 air intake on the m35a2

This begs the question. Does the a3 cap inset or fit over and what is the diameter? I have an a3 intake that I haven't installed yet, and I'm also in need of a cap. The outer dimension is 5 inches.

    Power steering

The most economical way takes time and knowledge. Your best bet is to do an advanced search and you will find several threads on the subject. Putting aside the threads on adapting what people can cobble together I found 2 steering boxes mentioned the most. The HF54, as mentioned in this...

    First step - cab rebuild

Asked the guy for an update yesterday, he sent over some pics and I dropped by to take some more. He got the top back from being laser cut and was mounting it. He had an engine hoist in the bed to hold it in place so he could get it all situated properly and tack it. He'll be adding an...

    MRAP Adapter Plates for M35A2

Try this place: https://westerncanadianrockwell.ca/ I haven't ordered from them, but they showed up in another thread.

Mine came with a Burger King wrapper stuffed in there.

    First step - cab rebuild

So, my first welder bailed on me, and after calling EVERY welder/fabricator in town and some in the next (I need to live in a more depressed area), I found a guy who restores hot rods who said he could fit me in. He showed me a mock up of the roof done with cardboard, the metal is out being...

    M35A2 No battery power

He didn't update this thread but he's got a post in "What did you do...", post #8939, that shows a parts truck which I assume is the one he's talking about here.

    A real trooper

Well, aside from age many of these trucks really don't have all that many miles. Also, while in the military they would've been well cared for...except for those stuck in a back lot to rust before and auction. Any engine/vehicle can suffer catastrophic issues even in the first 1000 miles...

    A real trooper

Using that logic, I should either replace everything or buy a new truck.

    A real trooper

So, aside from problems with the injector, my deuce has really done well by me. I've put a few thousand miles on it and driven it over the Cascade Mts. 5 times now. I'm making a few changes with the idea of going on some serious, potentially months (years?) long trips. Is there...
