I have them sandblasted and then I paint them myself. I use Rust-Oleum self-etching primer (nice gray-green color) with a topcoat of Rapco O.D. Green. I try to use the original fasteners. All of which get wire brushed. I use taps and dies to make sure the threads are clean and I almost always...
I finally installed my new Whistler turbocharger. I had originally intended to rebuild the existing one, but someone had taken a grinder to it in a hammer fisted attempt to balance it I guess. Notice the grinding on the center hub, nut, and four blade edges. All I need now are the parts back...
I'd like to see this post continue. My windows roll up and down kind of hard and I know my seals need replacing. Always good to gain knowledge from members that have been there and done that. I've only had my Deuce for about eight months. I have a lot to learn.
brianp454. Thanks for the D turbo offer. I'm going to stay with my commitment to the seller and follow through on my purchase. He's always come through for me in the past. Also, I love that Whistler sound.
You're right about the high prices some charge.
I exchanged emails with JH Diesel. I bought a rebuild kit from them several weeks ago. Arthur told me the ground down portion is a normal. It's the method used to balance the turbo wheels when rebuilding them. My exhaust turbine just had way too much metal removal for me (I'll post a pic if I...
Yes. Just install a new hose about four or so inches longer in that position. It leaves a small loop when the windshield is up. I use 1/4" air compressor hose from sears. The local auto parts places only seem to carry air and fuel hoses.
I removed my Whistler turbo with the intent of rebuilding using wsucougarx's magnificent post on the subject as a guide. Everything was looking good until I saw the exhaust turbine wheel. It looks like someone had taken a grinder to it! They removed a lot of material. I'm trying to figure out my...
You are busy! I would like to see pics of your a3 and posts concerning your resto work on the a2. It's raining like **** up here otherwise I'd drive Brutus in to work tonight.
Thanks digger! I just ordered flat black VHT hi temp. The consensus between my neighbors (especially Felicia) and the guys at work...is that my stack is too bright. After much hand wringing and mental anguish....I've decided to go with their collective opinions, get flat black, and...
Final Muffler Install
I finally finished my muffler install and got it the way I wanted it. I used a Donaldson muffler (I didn't notice any sound reduction with the twister I previously installed) and an aftermarket turnout stack painted with silver VHT. I made a bracket out of 1" angle iron...
Running Board and Exhaust
I finally finished installing a new exhaust on Brutus. It's a Donaldson muffler with a turnout stack. I made a bracket out of angle iron so I could attach the two mirror arms just like stock. I painted the stack with silver VHT. I'm not sure if I like the color yet. My...
