I just observed my oil pressure yesterday. 60 psi cold start up at 75 degrees OAT with Shell Rotella 15W-40. 30 psi at idle after a half hour drive with 170 showing on the temp gauge. Too busy while driving to notice what it was doing at speed. I'm going to have to check that out. In my diesel...
I spent four years aboard the USS Coronado LPD-ll. Gator freighter. I was assistant supe of the boat shop. I too made second just before I got out. Never sewed it on though. Left a week early. Been regretting it ever since. I was the guy who's clean work uniforms still smelled like diesel fuel...
takpak.....that's the type of oil pressure reading I used to get before I switched to matched 0-60 gauge and sender. Now my oil pressure is in the 30-45 psi range. I was a Navy Engineman from '73-'77.
Safety is number one! My bob weighs 11,440 pounds. I've had to haul him down fast once or twice and I've been surprised/relieved at how strong and straight he braked. The bottom line is strive to drive/anticipate traffic in a manner that keeps you and your Deuce out of panic braking situations...
Jeez Hank...I just read this particular post of yours. My Brutus rides on 11R-20s. I wonder how he'd pull if I turned my pump up. Brutus seems to pull pretty well, but sometimes he gets a bit winded on long grades in 5th. I let him dog down to 1500. Anything less and I'm looking for 4th. Drove...
Wicked good looking truck Hank! Man, you have put a ton of high quality work into your baby. Thinking about the roll over issue.....I'm considering having a bomb hoist/wrecker/Aframe kind of thing fabbed for my bed. The design is in my brain. Half hoist, half roll bar. Great for pulling engines...
Yup. Already did the mismatched sender and gauge thing. I always thought 90 PSI cold was a bit much. Now I get about 30 at idle with Shell Rotella 15W-40 and Jatonka spin-ons. Whistler turbo rebuild is up next. I think the exhaust turbine seal is leaking oil. My Whistler is "Brutus". 30 PSI at...
I met both Dave and Bill at the Sussex N.J. show. They are indeed the nicest guys you'd ever want to know. My experience with Eastern Surplus? I just call or email Bill and tell him what parts I need. We agree on the price (always fair). They ship right away. It arrives quickly at my door and...
91..I'm with you and your Uncle. 2200 is my max cruise speed. That's my Brutus' happy zone. My engine is an unknown. Going to rebuild my Whistler turbo soon. I think the oil seals are shot.
welldigger is right on the money as he usually is. I try not to drive my Deuce during times of peak traffic (school buses and people driving home from work). I usually drive Brutus in for my midnight shift at 6pm on Friday night. That way when I get off at 6am Saturday morning everyone else in...
Tom, I'm intrigued with the idea of replacing my transmission oil with SAE 50w motor oil. What brand of motor oil do you prefer? Are their any synchronizer/seal incompatibilities I should be aware of? My transmission sometimes won't go into gear after a stop. I leave it in neutral and let out...
I'm embarrassed by comparison with my progress to date! Clean machine for sure! I greased Brutus' chassis today. Lotsa zerks. I then proceeded to terrorize Phillipsburg NJ while running numerous errands in full Whistler mode. Tachometer stopped working. Dang!
My son Dan and I drove up to the Sussex, N.J. military truck show last Saturday. The Twister muffler I installed did nothing to reduce the sound level. I now have a Donaldson M070028 on the way.
Wow! Splinter that is one FINE Deuce! I am envious. I know you put a ton of effort into your beauty!
My son Dan and I followed my friend Glenn in his sweet 5 ton up to the Sussex, N.J. military vehicle show. It was our first show. I got to meet Dave and Bill from Eastern Surplus. Dave's son...
Exactly Rattler. Big pickup on steroids. Even cooler with 11R-20s in front and 11R-20s dueled out back. Looks great and drives just as good. I love mine.
If you are just getting it for a toy/cruiser/occasional off road, I would vote for the deuce. As others have stated, empty 5 ton tractors...
I'll take the Deuce. I live in an apartment complex. My bobbed Deuce fits neatly in a standard parking space. It navigates narrow streets easily. With the Whistler turbo it sounds nastier than any other diesel on the road. It can easily handle 4 tons of cargo in it's 8'x8' wheel humpless bed...
Practice 360 situational awareness like a fighter pilot while driving. Check your mirrors regularly and always know what's in front of you, behind you and on either side. Maintain a long following distance between yourself and the vehicle ahead of you. Expect to get cut off once in a while. Try...
Nice looking brakes! I finally got both my air wiper motors to work together in harmony. I adapted Trico civy blades to fit as well.
Then, I drove Brutus to work. He still had 80 psi air after sitting for ten hours. Is that good?
Hey Digger! How are you? Having a conversation at road speed without yelling is quite the concept.
I finally got my air wipers with civilian blades working today. Hooray!
