I had to go upstairs and look for a few more parts. I found some neat stuff I didn't even know I had. Brand new cab mount base washers, excellent used ones. Keep in mind I was stripping CUCV's in 1995 and stashing parts from the ones I didn't repair. I was picky back then. I found another...
I was out after lunch and started sanding more parts. I have to stay at it to get it done. I hand sanded the grille trim and headlamp bezels. I discovered I had a broken tab on one left bezel, and it was mop painted with CARC. I know where there is one that the broken one will work perfect...
I was out sanding parts for my current build and the trim parts for my next build. I was tired of hand sanding parts and wanted to address the step bars on my Trail Boss. These are Genuine GM stainless steel steps. After 3 years and 8 months they are worn thru. I wouldn't mind but it reflects...
It never ends. I could never reproduce a flawless old vehicle no matter how hard I try. I struggle to make things as excellent as possible. I always expect vehicles to be trouble.
Place a Parts wanted post in the Classifieds. And finding nice bolt in and use M1009 seats at this point in the game will be difficult. Finding rebuildable ones will be difficult but I think still an option. Must they be stock color? And seats only not the base pedestals? Send me a PM sometime...
Rodding a Radiator
You take your clogged but undamaged radiator to a competent rad shop. The top and bottom tanks are desoldered from your old radiator. A thin rod is run through each core to dislodge any debris. Everything is thoroughly cleaned in muriatic acid.
K5 Blazer, K5 Jimmy, K10 Suburban, K20 Suburban, V10 Suburban, V20Suburban GMC and Chevrolet, V10, V20. V30, K10, K20, K30. All the same 1981 to 1991. GM old body style. Things got real expensive for these trucks real quick.
Agree. If you are spending the money I would go all the way and change all the rubber in the fuel lines and drop the tank. Even eliminate the sock. But changing it would help. I seen the socks so worn a hole was rubbed thru them. CUCVRUS Repair Projects | SteelSoldiers CUCVRUS Repair Projects...
finnicky 24v system..
No such thing. If maintained and not hacked it will last indefinitely. Don't follow all the instructions on this site and use the manual as your guide. I learned that the CUCV systems work. Rust was always my biggest enemy. If you can tolerate the ride, noise and lack of...
I was out in the garage tonight and I sanded a few more parts. I was working on the tailgate torq rods. They are always rusty and crusty and binding in the plastic grommets that hold them. I removed the plastic sheath and sanded the rod that rides inside the plastic sheath till it was smooth...
1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked. | Page 35 | SteelSoldiers
I looked back at my previous notes, and I noted that I moved the injection pump timing line 2-line thicknesses to the driver's side of the line-to-line timing of the injection pump. I see yours is to the passenger's side. I...
If it is an original 1984 m1009 with the original engine it will not have the plastic push pins in the rocker shafts. The 1984 had the no plastic rocker shaft and rocker arms. If it says all original injection pump and all I am still thinking injection pump. But that is a guess from afar and...
If the going gets tough and you need a hand I am at the end of 78 were it splits I 81 exit 90. I get a few vehicles from NJ to work on from time to time. Take Care.
I agree that is missy very bad and running poorly. It is a poor video and hard to diagnose from it. Hey I'm not there. If I bought a CUCV and it ran poorly and I wanted a reliable vehicle I always went for the fuel system and did a complete overhaul on all the parts. That is after I ruled out...
The internal parts of the injection pump have failed. The only cure is the rebuilding of the injection pump. opinions vary and I will give you mine. I have changed over 100 injection pumps on CUCV's over the years. I had a local rebuilder and they went under after 50 years. The internet has...
I attempted to work in the shop Monday and Tuesday after sweating at work for 10 hours. It never happened in the shop. I retired to the A/C and cleaning up a downed tree on the property. I can never escape the tree issues. Unless I cut them all down. I have enough firewood split and stacked for...
