I've seen two recent instances of folks with broken half axles.
Several folks have stated that this could have been prevented with proper driving techniques specific to the HMMWV, such as brake-throttle modulation (BTM).
I got no such specialized training with Mother Navy when I learned how to...
@Elijah95 Oh, I figured you had too much on your plate. I was wondering if a competent, bargain-minded buyer could do it.
I don't have a shop or garage. It would be an ugly job for me.
So apparently this just happened:
This bill passed in what is called a "gut and replace." The legislature essentially took a good bill and gutted the language ALLOWING the vehicles and replaced with language DISALLOWING the vehicles.
You can read about it in greater detail here if you have...
There's a set of troop seats and other large hardware I'd like to buy at this location.
Is anyone swinging through PA and then heading south? I could meet at some locations in Maryland but I'm not ready to drive my 5-ton 400 miles to pick this stuff up.
Please let me know your costs as well.
@cruzinz28 Nothing is happening at this moment. I'll keep you in the loop.
The main thing you can do, is email your state delegate and state that you support HB-1148 *with amendments* and urge them to take up the bill.
Okie-dokie, here's what happened at the 2nd hearing of HB-1148:
First, I met with the bill sponsor in his office prior to presentation so that we could coordinate our statements and intentions.
The Delegate originally wrote the bill with the intent to legalize surplus HMMWVs to drive on...
I felt it necessary to start a fresh, clean thread on Maryland FMV registration to get clear of the thread drift and opinions in the old "Banned" thread.
Here are the solid facts:
1. I have spoken to Delegate Hornberger's staff today, 2/25.
2. I have verified that they have included our...
Mmm... I'd say more like lazy or "it can't happen here" mentality. Also, busy and distracted (which politicians depend heavily upon when passing objectionable laws).
How many comments have we seen here along the lines of "Glad I don't live in that crap state." These are the "it could never...
@Reworked LMTV In Maryland, it's not our MVA that is trying to remove FMV's, it's the state police via the ASED (Auto Safety Enforcement Division).
As per usual, the MSP doesn't want to be burdened with having to differentiate between Historic or full-use tags and they also don't like how...
Contact member @TMOMW and request his advice and guidance. He is helping to overturn bogus laws and directives across the country.
If he doesn't respond here, search for him on Facebook under "AMVO" American Military Vehicle Owners.
He won't fight your battles for you, but he'll arm you to the...
I checked with my Autozone. The nearest axle was 2 states (and 2-3 days) away and I just wanted to get the truck back together.
I plan on buying the axles in pairs and just swapping them in all at once.
Here's the latest update:
The bill sponsors have accepted our amendments and are working to incorporate them into the bill. We're giving them a day or so to do this and then we'll download and review the amended version. Fingers crossed that they apply our amendments correctly and we don't...
You say that you're going to install the harness on the engine before installing the engine.
Take care that the harness doesn't get pinched off between the engine and the truck when you're shoe-horning the new engine in.
Dude, I really feel for you, going at this alone. I'd help if I wasn't...
After a short cold snap of weather, I have reinstalled my freshly serviced half axle.
I also drained the hub and inspected the spindle nut. Everything was in textbook condition. Even so, I can understand why people hate the OEM spindle nut retainer. The tabs just don't engage the slots very...
As I understand it, HB-1148 will be submitted to the Maryland General Assembly on February 26th (9 days from today).
I'm hoping @TMOMW will come through with some well written amendments to the bill. I have never done anything like this and I'm drinking from a fire hose, trying to learn the...
