I coulda sent another truck out to the city for the tools, or had someone bring them in, but frankly, I've never changed a tire this big and I was ignorant. It was worth the money to see how the wrecker approached the problem. He did it in maybe ten or fifteen minutes with very basic tools and...
Figured I'd round up a couple of friends and go camping for my birthday. A mile in, scraped a rock and all the air made a break for freedom out of my front pax side tire. My first thought is I had ripped out an air hose - to my chagrin because I have a set of armor rings sitting at the shop -...
Those pictures were taken on a 5dmk2, sigma 20/1.4 (destroyed on trip, fell off the lmtv), canon 16-35/2.8L
I hated the seats more when I first got the truck. Could barely go a day. I figured out if you sit in them "properly" they can be quite serviceable. Gotta sit up straight like you are at...
I just drove a bone stock LMTV 3000 miles through 5 states with a M101 in the back plus an apartments worth of stuff while towing a Jeep JK. It was totally fine. I would throw my hazards on when I got under 45 pulling grades and I can count on one hand the number of times that was required...
Welcome,
If you want a camper you might look more towards the flatbed trucks like the 1087 and the M1083;
More than a few people seem to have gotten things like the Alaskan Non-Cabover and slid them onto the back of the truck. A couple points. The original bed is heavy - like I've heard 4000#...
So here's the damage. The jeep was a bit over 2 tons and I estimate I had maybe 1.25 tons in the bed (incl. the M101A1).
Avg moving speed: 41mph - but that includes many sections like the national parks where the speeds are slow. And a number of long crazy 30mph curve mountain roads.
2485...
Hadn't figured that part out yet, but if you figure you can get it down somehow, I'd appreciate it. Trailer should be sitting at 1500# and the deck height on the LMTV is 60". 1300# on the trailer if a couple of 3-man lift crates are manhandled out of it first. I loaded them, then loaded the...
Arrived home safe and sound. No further problems with the truck. Ended up straight-up 4-wheeling with a trailer and an apartments worth of stuff in the bed, towing the 4200# JK - no complaints at all from the LMTV. That flickr link has been updated with the rest of the pictures. Overall sure I...
Day 4 through pink coral sand dunes was nice. I missed Zion but my friend made it - realized that getting thin LMTV through there would be impossible or anyways not worth it. We drove out to the ET highway and camped just past the road to Area 51. Nothing untoward happened during the night...
Day 3 through the GC was pretty nice. Went through the GC in the morning and then out to Monument Valley. Cruised around here and then made it back to Page, AZ. Camped at the Lost Rock Beach campsite. You can drive right up to the beach and camp there if you want.
In the late afternoon the oil...
Left in the late afternoon yesterday - made it as far as past flagstaff to my camp spot. Woke up in the morning PANIC oil all over the rear axle. Thought I blew an axle seal. Then oh WHEW oil over all everything. That makes it better right? Upper trans cooler hard line was cracked at the tranny...
