pros and cons to owning an LMTV vs a M35a3

Winch on either truck? How bad is the rust on the LMTV (surface rust, significant rust on structural elements - is it a rust belt truck)? What do you plan to do with the truck? Work horse or hobby vehicle? Asking because the A3 is the "less electronic" truck. The LMTV is more modern and with...

    Yes, it did.

    MY Airpack Rebuild with Photos!

My kit had one o-ring missing, the one from the groove between air chamber and body. I took one from my O-ring supply kit and did not think much of it. Seems to be sloppy QC.

Historical Interest: Lawsuit between Allis Chalmers and Continental over injection pump trade secrets

I am a sucker for history like this, so thank you for posting ! According to the inflation calculator, Mr Wolff's salary of $1500/month in 1965 equals 12k/month or 150k/year today. And we know that there really never surfaced any alternative to the AMBAC pump on the 465. The capitalist system...

Air leak from transmission area, brake pedal like concrete

Your air pressure readings are definitely suspect. When the truck builds pressure, is there a point where the compressor unloads (stops producing pressure)? Or is it pumping constantly? You may have to listen very closely on idle. The governor is a cheap and easy NAPA replacement. Or it could be...

    Rebuilding the Injection pump

Beyond, there are 4 ways fuel can make its way into the crankcase. The HH is one of them. https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/making-oil.177206/ If you replaced the IP completely, you also replaced the booster pump, so you can likely eliminate that as the source. Flame heater, FDC?

Whats going on with my compressor pulley

My beef with anti seize is that they make the bottle it comes in so that the supplied cap-mounted brush can only reach 60% of the contents. So I need to use a separate brush to get to the rest. AARGH. And thank you for that video. I focused on the edge of the pulley and it really appears to be...

1969 M35A1 Fuel Return Line Fittings Source

FWIW, I used the ferrules that are used with DOT air lines. They are too wide for the brass nut to be able to grab the first threads of the fitting. I just held both sides of the ferrule to the bench grinder to make the ferrule a bit smaller and it worked fine. No leaks.

    Favorite noise your deuce makes

With the LDS and 11.00R20, my Deuce has no fear of hills. The rolling hills in my area can all be done in (OD) 5th high, watching the EGT. Loaded with sand bags, she was noticeably more sluggish, but going was not an issue....stopping quickly, however, was! On one trip, the well meaning loader...

Inherited deuce, looking for some help with identification

As for the brakes, if you intend to drive the truck at all, these do need careful attention. Single circuit hydraulic brakes, no redundancy. Brake fluid level, bleeding air pack, then bleeding all wheel brake cylinders, adjusting all brake shoes are the minimum to do, even before intensive...

Inherited deuce, looking for some help with identification

Interesting! I can't say I knew of them before. Thanks for helping me learn new things! Here is info I located on the GMC Toro-Flow: http://6066gmcguy.com/toroflow.html Based on the pics, I think we have a winner! The YouTube has a video of one starting and idling: Now...which toro flow is...

Inherited deuce, looking for some help with identification

It would be helpful if you could peek around the engine for any manufacturer plates etc. 6 cylinder four stroke V layout diesels were not very common back in the day. As a repower, I would assume the engine dates to the 1970' or 1980'. International/IH made inline sixes and V8s, it certainly...

    Starter Relay Missing??

Have you checked the frame rails? It may have been relocated there to avoid exhaust heat. Unless you toss the starter and go with a modern gear reduction starter you do need that external relay. Where in upstate NY are you? I'm just an hour North of the border. Sent from my SM-G950W using...

No. 7 Hoisting Unit value? How used?

The #7 wrecker set is rated for 3000 lbs. The rail is lower and shorter than on the "bomb hoists" (and these are rated for 1000 lbs). I guess you can use it to pull engines and transmissions. I could see it lifting something long if it can brace the load against the truck, maybe a long log or...
