Posted it on the family schedule, so count me in. Probably with son this time, we'll drive up Saturday morning. Going to do a convoy into town for lunch again ?
It is reasonably common to see the headlight wires without the nice rubber connectors on the wires. Mine had cheap plastic crimp splices (3), twisted bare wires (1), and the grounds to nearby bolts. There is a good wiring schematic posted in one of the threads on this site, make sure to read...
Here are some price ranges I've seen locally in the last year or so-
Government Liquidation (San Antonio, Red River (near Texarkana), Pineville and Fort Polk in LA, Fort Shelby in MS):
from less then $1000 for a truck with no winch, canvas, racks, or bows, but appearing mechanically complete...
I bought blind, and it worked out great !
That said, I did a lot of looking and reading first (this site was an awesome find), and then did the calculation on what my business would lose with a preview trip vs. what it would cost if I bought a total piece of junk. I am fortunate that a real...
Tom,
Thanks for the pictures ! How did you run the belts - both belts around all 4, or different routing for each belt ? Any problems with the belts (slipping, wear, etc.) ? As I understand belt routing, it is ideal to have at least 120 degrees around each pulley in a v-belt setup, which...
The nice one (in overtime) at right around $5000, the others (4?) at around $4000. Didn't write down the prices, so don't remember exactly. The one at San Antonio also just under $5K, the 936 in Shreveport at $11,500 in way overtime.

In Texas, use anything you want, as long as someone else hasn't already used it. Note there are restrictions on the FMV registration, similar to antique plates (if your using a collectors/antique...
These are all British car suppliers, I don't know if the one you have is exactly the same. I would expect at least the filters to be the same.

Changing out the filters on the overdrive is pretty trivial, you just have to figure out which ones and where they are. You don't have to crack the case to get to any of them, they are all behind covers or plugs. If you have a big drill press (or small milling machine or metal lathe) you can...
The Laycock overdrives were used in tons of British sports cars and a lot of the 60's and 70's Volvos. Between my dad and I, we've got 5 Triumphs with them. Usually behind a 4 speed manual, and a bigish 4 cylinder or small straight 6. The solenoid opens flow from an internal hydraulic pump...
If you can register it in the same farm truck category as a pickup, there are essentially no restrictions on use in Texas (other then owing a farm or ranch ...).
As for the lights, if it is already registered and titled in Texas, you probably won't have to add them. If it hasn't been registered...
As I understand the Texas law, over 26,000 lbs GCVW is not eligible for the 1 month temporary tags. You have to get a 1 trip permit. It is unclear how many times you can get a temporary tag or permit for the same vehicle, I don't think they track them, so you might be ok until the ladies at...
TexAndy,
I want an 816 too ! Don't need it, don't have anyplace to keep it, don't really have time to keep it running, but I waaaannnt one ! My research matches NDT's, including the recent law change about TxDOT and Fed. DOT registration, but neither of those are that expensive, just more...
I tend not to do this on the highway, because it seems like I always drive the deuce when it might rain. How much (more then usual) rain does the open windshield let in ?
Even if its not listed as a trailer, (for instance the AN/MJQ 18 power plant I bought, M103 + MEP003 + MEP003 + accessories) it just means you can't use GL's web site form. I printed out and faxed in the form with a copy of the auction description and the trailer part highlighted, got my SF97...
If you strip the gazillion layers of paint, the military rims will have a paragraph of text listing part numbers, specs, and the allowable tire sizes. My truck has wheels that range from riveted (probably from the 1950's) to 1990's manufacture dates, and all allowed at least 8.00 x20 - 11.00x20...
