I got the hood scoop finished. It works well, just pull up the back before opening the hood. you can pop the latch with no problem but before lifting the hood you have to lift the back of the scoop up until it sits on the inner brace, the sides are flexed in just a little so it fits tight. A...
check the wire going to the starter solenoid with a meter. Is it getting power all the time or just when you turn the key. If it is energized all the time then you have a problem with the relays under the dash. If it is energized only when you turn the key then there is a problem in the starter...
sounds like a bad starter. can you pull the gear out by hand? maybe just stuck. IF it is spinning then sounds like the electrical is working. problem is with starter.
if it were mine, i would pull the heads and have them rebuilt. the valves are probably all rusty and it will not take long for the rust to eat up the valve guides. This gives you a chance to hone any rust on the cyliners and new head gaskets. cost is approx. $600 for rebuilding heads with new...
I am almost done. the hood is finished and the scoop is welded together. It will hinge at the very front and lift from the back so it does not bind on the pipes. I got everything painted (first coat) and it is drying tonight, i should get it finished in the next couple days.
The entire hood...
glad to here you can get back to work on it. I am ready to see the engine back in the truck.
I was going to change the fuel line on mine to be similar to yours, my fuel filter is in stock location. but I did not because it would be next to impossible to get it loose without removing the intake...
as the video shows, when a glow plug is not working, higher voltage goes to the others. The more glow plugs that do not work, the higher the voltage goes. The card try's to protect it but does not change the fact that the plugs are getting a higher voltage and they will eventually burn out if...
no, the voltage drop on the resistor is determined by the load. The lower the load, the higher the voltage goes. Thus when one plug quits working, the voltage increases to the other plugs. sandcobra is correct with his description of the cascading failure of the glow plug system.

this is one I have considered. I need to stay with two twelve volt alternators. If I were to put in a 24 volt and keep one twelve volt it puts more stress on the belts. If I had a serpentine system It would not be a problem. Using two...
I got the sides and top cut for the scoop. Trimming is still needed once i make the final fit. I installed the inner flat bar and i have to finish the interior bracing before removing the hood and welding the inside.
opening hood with no cable
I got it open. had to wedge it and get to the bolts. my hood was to tight and the cable was not in the clip properly. The cable snaps down and then you have to pull it up past a small latch in the hook. I added a small zip tie just for some insurance.
I tried for...
thanks for the info, i received a link from another member here about being able to pick the latch with a coat hanger. I will spend a little time on that before going after the latch bolts but that will be plan b. I will let everyone know how it goes.
