    M880 factory colour ?

In the Marines, late 70s-mid 80s, ours were mostly painted MERDC Winter Verdant (34079 green, 30118 brown, with small patches of black and tan). The few all-green ones were FS 34079. Cheers

USMC MV-22 Osprey - air to air video flying over Lake Tahoe

Just to be clear, I was not offended, and hope the winky at the end showed that. But I had to defend my baby! :) Cheers

USMC MV-22 Osprey - air to air video flying over Lake Tahoe

Hey! Quit slagging my CH-53, the V-22 replaced the CH-46!! ;) If you really want to be impressed, compare the performance of those two. I have to point out though, service ceiling for a CH-53 is 18,500', not 3250'. Cheers

USMC MV-22 Osprey - air to air video flying over Lake Tahoe

My younger Marine son is a gunner on V-22's. As an old CH-53 guy, I find that to be a somewhat bizarre aircraft! Cheers

    AN/ VDR-2 deuce installation

I have one of those too (looks new) that another member gave me. I'll be interested to see what it mounts to. Cheers

    Dragoon - New Paint

Very nice. [thumbzup] Those are sweet vehicles! Cheers

    Do your PMCS!

And don't be afraid to deadline it. I missed an important Vietnam commemoration event with the V100 because, though everything had been fine the day before, on the morning of the event the brakes were soft, and wouldn't pump up (the brake booster was failing). Very reluctantly, my son and I...

    Hidden deuce finds

When I picked up my M185 from the auction, there were about seven boxes of parts locked in the back, including a turbo, a new radiator, loads of hoses, new filters, an alternator, a couple of hydraulic jacks, and numerous other bits new and used. And a nice boarding ladder! The tool box had a...

    B-47 Stratojet Bomber

I looked at my picture files, and have pictures of three different B-47s in Navy markings. Two are the EB-47Es, 52-4100 and 52-4120. A third is 53-2104, which has obviously had the USAF markings cleaned off and Navy applied, don't know anything about that one. Cheers PS - a net search shows...

    B-47 Stratojet Bomber

In the mid-70s, I lived on the approach path to the Corpus Christi NAS, and was lucky enough to see Navy B-47s landing there. I thought them beautiful planes. (For a plane-mad kid, that was a great place to live!). If I recall correctly, these were EB-47Es, and though the Navy said at the...

Hmmm..do you like low flying aircraft?....then here ya go!

Rotary engines. The end of the cam was attached to the firewall, and the engine spun around it. Simple and light weight for the power it produced, and self cooling. One of the biggest issues in getting an early aircraft off the ground was coming up with an engine light enough, but with...

Ran into a currently in service 1-1/2 T CUCV PU at Lincoln Home today!

There are still a few CUCVs running around Ft Hood, and the Guard have a few on Camp Mabry. 70mph in an M1031 translates to "I don't have to pay for it if I break it". Cheers

    Show us your Military Trailers

What JuanP said - it comes apart where those two uprights are. There is also a flatbed "pallet", but the only ones of those I know of are in the museum at Camp Mabry. I admit to casting a rather covetous eye upon them. When not attached to a shelter, the two sections bolt together and can...

Katrina Deuce Story - MUST READ

Couldn't hurt. :) It'll be a while before that one flies again, though... Cheers

Katrina Deuce Story - MUST READ

He doesn't get on here much anymore, but I'll pass on y'alls regards. Speaking of flying, haven't seen Sarge since last night. Around 11pm, he decided to give me a "UFO moment" with a well-lighted drone. Turns out a large cedar tree resented the drone's presence and swatted it from the skies...

    Would you pay $17,000.00 for a M1009?

"I'm starting the auction at $17,000....." Good luck with that, fair chance it will end with that unmet. That's more money than I have invested in three 5-tons, two M1009s and a slew of trailers. So no. Cheers

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

When you run into a green that is "almost 383 green, but not quite" on equipment, it is likely 34079 Forest Green. It is the normal factory green for antenna bases, gun mounts, and other equipment (post-OD period). It is the dark green used in the MERDC camo (also USAF aircraft, and airfield...

    1955 International R-160 4x4 ... Navy Crash Truck

Looking forward to watching your truck progress. It's a beautiful machine. This is my buddy's restoration-underway truck. It's a later model than yours, but shows what one Navy IH fire truck looked like, and the data plate shows how the Navy registration number was written out. Yes, I...
