Hard for me to explain when my transmissions downshift. I have had trucks that seemed to downshift late or upshift early. As you pointed out, most of the time, those things dealt with the shift points being out of whack. I just never had to manually downshift my trucks. Anyway, good luck!
Mike, if your truck does not downshift when you are driving up a hill, something is wrong. All of my trucks downshift just like you might expect when losing speed headed up a hill. I have never had to manually downshift my trucks. I put it in 1-5 and head out...unless I am doing something off...
I wonder if the pop-off valve you heard was the air dryer. Often when the air dryer is bad, going, or if the filter in it is dirty, it will go off incessantly. This is not good for the air dryer. Check to see if that could be an issue.
The M939 series trucks have loads of air valves within...
Hey Ricky, not sure if you remember me or not, but I have done a lot of business with John over the years. I was shocked to hear the terrible news a few weeks back. I heard from Pete that they are going to try to keep the business going. I am hopeful of getting down there sometime soon...
The M939 series trucks will be better, but not great. They are really underpowered, too, for pulling at highway speeds. Fortunately for you, FL is known for its mountains! :) The M915 is your best bet money-wise. They don't tend to bring crazy money and you are getting a lot of truck! Check...
I think you have the wrong truck for power. Really, most of the tactical trucks that are coming out lack top end power if the truck is loaded (or you are pulling a fairly decent load...I estimate your load at approximately 12,000 pounds including the trailer). You need an M915 or something...
The Freightliner tractors have the same tires in all positions...315/80R22.5 (most often Michelin XZY-2 or 3). Check the data plate to confirm that it is an M916A2. If it is, yours is now the second that I have seen come out. Mine did not come through GL as I never seen another M916A2 on GL...
As far as I know, he was healthy. He worked out and ate right. He was 56 when he died, but if you met him, you'd swear he was no more than 50. My wife and I discussed this over the weekend after we heard about his passing. I thought he was 50 and my wife thought he looked younger, but Pete...
Unfortunately, I was away on vacation and could not return for John's funeral. Chad, I am glad you got to make it. Blake Sheppard also went and even drove his M151A2! I thought about John a lot this weekend...reflecting on the hundreds of phone calls we had, the dozens and dozens of visits I...
I still can't beloved the terrible news. My wife was down with me to see john half a dozen times. I sat today and thought about the many trips to his place...too many to count. He was a great friend. The milveh world lost one of its greats. I still have a truck there in his shop! That is the...
I am not sure, Mark. Maybe, you could do it. However, they know how the transmission SHOULD shift and they set it accordingly. Perhaps, you have the manuals on that. We are talking about a few hundred bucks (I think it cost me like $350-400 the last time they swapped the shift modulator, flushed...
Take the truck to an Allison dealer and have them check the shift points. They will set it optimally. Once I get an Allison, my first move is to bite the bullet and take the truck to an Allison dealer (or a shop that is a licensed Allison repair location) to let them service the transmission...
