    Justifying a 4bt swap?

you have to get to the navastar or gep 6.5 motors to get good blocks and reliability. The gm blocks yes had problems. not to hard to get a rebuilt navastar ready to drop in and it will cost you less than the 4bt swap. a properly tuned 6.5 will be half as loud as the same 5.9 The 6.5 is...

    86' M1008 - Contemplating Chevy 350 engine swap

there are a lot of 350 swap threads, search and you can find all the info needed. you will need to change or alter the existing wiring harness. not a big deal, look at Roscommon method and follow that to make existing wiring harness 12 volt. you may need all new mounting brackets for the alt...

    Justifying a 4bt swap?

6.5 navastar or gep or even a p400 would be an easier swap. the 6.5 stock would be about same as a built 4bt. same weight. P400 a little heavier. a built 4bt will rattle a blazer to pieces. 6bt's can also cause a lot of vibration problems. They are not a smooth as the v8 diesels I have a...

Looking for Arizona resident that knows the M1009 CUCV

Double check it closely, this is the first in a few years I have heard of someone being able to get one off the shelf that was correct. not doubting you, just surprised. I picked up some extra used ones for spares just because I was told they were obsolete and unavailable new or rebuilt. Rich

Looking for Arizona resident that knows the M1009 CUCV

the chance orielly's had an isolated ground on shelf is very rare. They probably sold you a regular one and did not know the difference. these alternators are considered obsolete at almost all parts stores and there is not an off shelf replacement. All parts stores and most mechanics know...

Looking for Arizona resident that knows the M1009 CUCV

you need a multimeter and a few lessons on how to use it if you own a cucv. The meter has a continuity function which will allow you to test the alternator. you need to make sure that all of the connecting studs on the back of the alt are not connected to the case. all they have to do is miss...

Main bearing web cracks and girdles

When adding a turbo to a 6.2, a stud girdle cannot hurt as long as it is installed correctly. The basic idea is to spread the load on the caps from the firing cylinder to the non-firing cylinders next to it. I spent a lot of time researching it also. From what I have found you want a full...

Looking for Arizona resident that knows the M1009 CUCV

you need to start disconnecting things until you can connect the cables without sparks. you need to find the short or where the load is coming from. Maybe someone did not get the alt built right. when on the bench was it tested that the case was isolated. have you checked it for continuity...

just thought of it. disconnect your starter. you may have gotten starter run on which causes dead short in starter. the starter staying connected may have caused the truck to run funny. the doghead mod prevents this issue from happening.

fireworks means you got heavy load or dead short on the cables before hooking it up. disconnect alt 1 and see if you still have fire works. your alt one may have shorted

Looking for Arizona resident that knows the M1009 CUCV

there really is not much on the truck to cause it to run bad after changing an alt. unless the fuel shutoff valve is not opening all the way. So look at each issue separately first. it is very likely the other alt failed on its own. If the truck has fuel, once it starts the only thing...

optimizer long block - hummer 24V or cucv 24v

Well the redux starter is doing the same thing as my other two. I unbolted the torque converter and found the flex plate wobbles real bad. when I was bolting it to the flex plate I noticed some of the bolts were harder to tighten than the others. I think my brand new flex plate is bad. I...

optimizer long block - hummer 24V or cucv 24v

I was able to get the fenders mostly complete. I got the bondo on for the most part. They need some sanding in spots and some touch up but I will wait to get them on the truck to do the final finishing. To me they still look factory since I was able to retain the inner lip of the fender. From...

    M1008 not starting

compression, fuel and heat. those three things in any one cylinder and you will get the motor to sputter. you are missing one of the three in all cylinders. It is normally not compression especially in all cylinders. most likely fuel or heat so I would definitely triple check all that
