    still confused with the alternators

It is somewhat a simple system. Atl1 (drivers side) outputs 12V to the 12V bus on firewall (next to brake booster) and it also outputs to the input of alt 2. Just like your front battery is connected to the back battery and also to the 12 volt bus. The battery cables can be confusing since...

    still confused with the alternators

first disconnect and test each battery, a dead cell can cause problems. I would bet however you need alt 1 rebuilt and alt 2 is not far behind from needing a rebuild.

    CUCV Cooling System Upgrade Kit

You can purchase in line thermostats, just wondering if it would be simplified and give better flow if the rear cross overs connected to an in line thermostat which could then return to the radiator side of thermostat. It would be possible also to split the radiator hose with a simple T. This...

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

yes, I put my old flex plate up to the new one and rolled it around. The two flex plates match up well and not at an angle. I don't think anything is wrong with the flex plate. I am leaning to just having one starter rebuilt with new Bendix gear. Maybe the old gear is more worn than I think...

optimizer long block - hummer 24V or cucv 24v

I really like your tires and rims, I like mine also, not as tall as yours but 39's are ok in my book. I have Michilin xzl 11 wide by 39 tall, bought 6 new and two used so I have two sets. The half tread ones will be going on the truck once it is finished. I just wanted the new ones for the...

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

If you could let me borrow a 24 volt redux just to test with, I will deliver it back to you. If anything happens to it I will replace with new. my worst fear is that the starter bolt holes were drilled out of line, I am also considering putting the old flex plate on, this will be very...

optimizer long block - hummer 24V or cucv 24v

fender cut and flare I tried some more with no luck on the starter. I may purchase a newer model gear reduction to see if it makes a difference. I have two direct drive units both in good shape so I hate to have to change to a different starter. I also don't want to throw money at it and not...

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

Nice to see that it is on the road and being fine tuned, I prefer that terminology over getting the bugs out. What starter are you using. I am trying to decide if I should by a new starter. can't get my direct drive 24 volt to line up. I have two, tried both. Wondering if a new gear reduction...

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

I believe you need 91 or older heads. They changed the angle of the bolt holes and the newer ones will not work

optimizer long block - hummer 24V or cucv 24v

I am using the direct drive 24 volt stock cucv starter so it should need shims. When I removed it from the 6.2 it had one 1/8 inch shim

optimizer long block - hummer 24V or cucv 24v

I seem to be having trouble getting the start to turn without some terrible noise. I shimmed the starter using up to 1/4 inch of shims. Starting with none and adding them 1/32 at time and it makes no difference in starter noise. not grinding just squealing really bad. Also the Bendix gear...

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

pm me if you need a good 6.2 I pulled mine for a 6.5 with some banks parts (turbo never installed on motor) To change the motor you don't have to change tranny but possibly torque converter if you go gas The only direct swap in another 6.2 or a 6.5 if you do not get a Navistar 6.5 I would...

Question about Dual oil filter kit 57K4411 4330-01-533-5641

I got mine from amsoil at the time. have not looked. I have an amsoil guy in college station that works for tamu. I will ask him about it when I see him. He has already checked on the kit for a 6.5 for me and they have them. I will ask about the filters. I normally run into him weekly on...

Hello from MiddleEarth with questions about my M1009

check to see if the axles are upgraded. if not, just know you are pushing them to their limits with that tire size. something to think about when off road if they are 10 bolt stock axles. nice truck. Rich

Question about Dual oil filter kit 57K4411 4330-01-533-5641

amsoil sells dual filtration kits for most motors. has an adaptor that screws onto existing oil cooler mount. I know you guys are using a mil spec unit but just passing on what amsoil does. They use one regular filter and one 5 micron filter. The 5 micron gets changed every other filter...

    Mods for playing in mud

The truck may not be worth anything but the axles are worth $2k or better, don't mess them up you may want to use them in something else later. The D60 is almost worth its weight in gold these days.

    Soft Back window m1009

If you wish to ride with the rear window down, you need one of those rear wings that turn the air down behind the vehicle. The wings serve two purposes. keep exhaust gasses from recirculating, and keep the back of the vehicle clean. when I complete my roof rack, it will have the rear wing...
