In auto what rpm does it shift at?
What is the governed rpm of the engine?
What is the model of the trans, check the tag on the side of the trans.
The shift points are adjustable, but you have to drop the pan to do it.
If the transmission has a low low first it can be set to stay in that...
Try PSC in chino. I used to have them do a bunch of custom stuff for me before they moved to chino. You probably need to go there and talk to them, I never had great luck with the phone. Bring a color sample so he knows what you are talking about.
I am glad you found the problem
If you do not know this already, you are required to perform a COLA test on an air brake vehicle every day as part of your pretrip inspection.
The applied brake test is especially important since you have opened up the airlines.
This test involves testing the...
I did they same thing and now the high school marching band asks that I bring it to there functions. The nice thing about having working lights and using it at these functions is you do not have to load test it or exercise it.
The group is happy you are doing them a favor but the reality is...
What repairs are you going to do to the motor?
Based on your description my mechanic and I agree that the probable cause is the fuel system. He actually suggested to try cleaning out the filters and lines and run it off a 5 gallon can of fresh diesel to start.
A reputable shop usually does...
Yes bad fuel can cause a diesel to run like crap and knock. The fuel has to be really bad to smell bad.
The injectors can either become plugged up or they can stick open. Diesel injectors are designed to pop at a specific pressure to inject the fuel. If this is no occurring at the correct...
The problem is that this is a surplus truck and you do not know the history and weather the plugs have been in there since new or were open at some point and replaced.
The modern jeep wheels have a very small pilot hole due to the lack of locking hubs these days
Here is an answer I found
http://tventuring.com/trailerforum/thread-64.html
How much fuel was in the truck when you picked it up?
What did the fuel look like?
Was there any poly wigs or water in it?
Did the mechanic check the fuel?
A injector or injector pump problem caused by bad fuel can make these engines sound like they have a knock.
I would check the fluids...
A good option for what you want would be to ditch the heavy military tires and axle and install a new axle with hydraulic brakes and matching bolt pattern and tire wheel combination as the jeep. The surge brake actuator is not that heavy. What is heavy are the military tires and axle. This would...
You can cage a spring brake can and replace the service diaphragm but you are betting you safety on two little tabs on the caging bolt.
With the number of caging bolts that I have seen pop out over the years I would not risk it. The caging bolts fail for three main reasons. The ears on the...
What is the fascination with electric brakes. I have never had good luck with electric brakes. My experience is they do not like being dunked in water or sand, we had a lot of trouble with them in the pine barrens of south jersey growing up. Never had half the trouble with the surge brakes on...
It sounds like one of your service brake diaphragms has failed. Unlike a civilian truck the military trucks vent the air thru the intake stack. With the brake pedal depressed you need to listen to each can with a stethoscope to see if you can hear air moving. If this does not work you need to...
Tow it home. check the fluids to see if there is any contamination such as oil in the water or the reverse and metal in the oil. if all looks good get a good mobile mechanic to look at it. I had one that ran horribly and bad fuel had wiped out the injectors and pump.
It is usually stamped into the plate on the tongue and the body. Sometimes it is painted on the vehicle. If it is USMC just use the registration number, it may be painted over so you will have to look at the shadow or sand it.
Post pictures so we can give you advice.
