Re: RE: Re: Air Shift or Sprag??
There are two reasons - one less thing to adjust, and a key army officer (whose name escapes me at the moment) did not like the sprag. I have a stack of reports from Aberdeen and Yuma Proving Ground that is probably 2 inches thick, none of which indicate any...
RE: M292A2
non-turbo LD-465 trucks with vertical stacks have the muffler inboard of the battery box.
non-turbo LD-465 trucks with horizontal exhaust have systems similar to the gassers.
The LDS-427 turbo trucks have horizontal exhaust.
The LDT turbo trucks have larger diameter vertical pipes.
All the M292A2s that I have seen are data plated as such. However, I am now curious as to what the data plate on the van body says, and also the first four digits of the VIN stamped in the frame - which will tell you whether or not it left the factory with the body.
The body lights work both...
The steering problem sounds very much like the trouble one experiences with a sprag-equipped truck if you don't move the shifter through first. So, giving this only about 3 seconds thought, I'd say it might be related to your air shift.
However, I really haven't put much thought to this.

If anyone else is not going to be able to make it and wants to sell their vendor spot in the SS area, drop me a PM - I'm looking for a place to set up a table and toss a few books on it (a dozen or so different titles).
Best wishes,

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Ok, this is weird... contradicting VIN/
I never worry about the mileage on a MV. Sitting outside is my daily driver - a Buick with 196000 miles on it - which I would not hesitate to drive cross country.
I've never seen (or heard of) an MV with mileage approaching that...
RE: Re: RE: Ok, this is weird... contradicting VIN/registra
That reg number does not appear to even be close to correct for that VIN - even if a digit was missing from the registration number.
I'm with RAM on this - I think someone adjusted their property book by repainting registration...
RE: Ok, this is weird... contradicting VIN/registration num
So, if I understand what you have said - in reality you don't KNOW any of the actual numbers of the truck. I've looked at over a thousand deuces - I have yet to find one that was not stamped with the VIN.
HOWEVER, some older trucks...
RE: Ok, this is weird... contradicting VIN/registration num
Post, or PM me, the entire VIN as it is stamepd in the frame and I'll see if I can give you the original registration number. For a vehicle to have its registration number changed is VERY unusual - especially for a cargo truck.
An...
Tom,
I am not sure what you want to know. I can tell you that your truck is a 1971 mode M35A2 with winch. The VIN number is 0539-11881. The Army registration number (aka hood or door number) is 04H66471. The VIN is what the maker tracked the vehicle, and any design changes by, and is useful to...
As Bruce said - it depends on what era you are trying to represent, and from there, what you intend to do with the truck. Solid tan or three color NATO camo will likely attract much less attention from motor vehicle enforcement - if there are no other mods and the operator isn't wearing blaze...
RE: Poll On Reporduction Winch Plates...
My preference would be original thickness, and drilled for the plates - ie, and exact repro, which is not a choice given in the poll.
Best wishes,
David Doyle
Also, take a look at the rims - are they of riveted or welded construction. IF the rims are of riveted construction, they are probably original to the truck - and they will be dated. However, from the info you've posted I'd have no hesitation in registering it as a 1952 Studebaker.
