To answer your question literally would take several pages. However, if you want to know what color to buy to repaint it, you want either FS 595A 24087, or FS 595B 24084 (the same color, but two different numbers) - you do NOT want FS 595B 24087 - that color is not correct for vehicles of the...
Invest in an ORD 9 - it should give the specs on the chain, making it much easier to procure - I'd look it up in mine for you, but as is so often the case, its at home, and I'm not.
With respect to the frame- the frame of the M764 is reinforced from the tandems to the rear of the truck - if the...
I am indeed on the road (St. Roberts, MO - Fort Lost in the Woods), but I can tell you for sure that NK067U054012998 was NOT built in 1982. Without all my notes I'm only giving you an educated guess - but 72 sounds right for the truck, especially given that matches the engine.
HTH,
David
I think you have found a part number for the frame rail, not the serial number. There are a lot of numbers stamped in the frame rail. The serial (VIN) number is stamped on the driver's side, FORWARD of the front axle, and a good 12-16 inches forward of the shock mount - so be sure you are...
If it were a 1980 model there would be a 06XX or perhaps 08XX preceding the 10015.
Is it ex-army? If so, the army registration number should be stencilled on the inside of the doors and under the hood. This number would help a great deal. Where did you find the 10015?
Are the inner fenders...
As RAM has said, we need the first four digit prefix of the VIN to get the year. OR, if the truck is very much older, instead of a four-digit prefix it will have the letter M as a prefix.
Post the full number, and we can help you out. The article referred to was in MV earlier this year.
And...
Anyone in this area? If so, PM me, or even better, email me at ddoyle9570 at aol dot com.
I'm working almost all day, and into the evening Sunday - so I may be slow responding.
Thanks in advance for any replies.
Sincerely,
David
Kenny, not really. While the M108 is tough to find, the V18 is tougher. Plus, knowing you, you are going to drive the wrecker thousands of miles, using it as a wrecker. The V18 is likely to be like most of my trucks - a hanger queen.

There is a manual specific to that body (two actually) - sorry, I don't have the number with me, I'm on the road. I don't believe a digital version exists of either. One was a government TM, and surfaces on eBay from time to time. The other was created by Austin Western, and I've only ever seen...
Although the TM recommended a driver in the towed vehicle, I believe this is illegal in most jurisditions. In my experience, with proper front end alignment of the towed vehicle, and avoiding sharp turns, tracking is not a problem.
Great looking truck. Post more pics - and KEEP IT A GASSER...
Its bolted. FWIW, I've never seen any type of truck body or bed that was welded to the frame (except by folks who do so by mistake). The frame is tempered steel, and conventional welding to it would destroy the temper, and thus substanially weaken the frame.

There are basically only two problems with the sprag-type transfer case - both involving laziness. Failures can be caused by the operator failing to follow the instructions in the manual, which emphasis the shift lever MUST be moved through first or reverse when changing directions (that is...
Wanna see what effect the in tank pump has on the truck, drive down the highway at near max speed and flip the electrical master switch off - you will feel the truck shudder slightly as the fuel flow is decreased, and once momentum has disappated, you'll notice you are driving slightly slower...
RE: Photos?
Work has kept me away from the group for a while, however, I have a couple of things to say on the engine start situation.
Every edition of the operator's manual for the deuce says to start vehicle by towing, place transfer in high, and transmission in fifth. Many GI's have...
I'm pretty sure a wrecker isn't shown - but in my Standard Catalog of US Military Vehicles there is a photo of a M109 with canvas. When considering such things, its important to remember the mindset of the time when they were designed. The foundation of the M-series vehicles was laid even as...
