My dad refused to talk much of it. He told me what a lovely aeroplane the Spitfire was to fly; he talked of North Africa, the food and the people; he talked of France. But never what he was doing there.
He died in 2005. We knew he was dying in those last couple of weeks, and I asked him to...
Absolutely no offense was taken! So, no worries. I was merely providing illumination on some of the events which influenced my opinion. And it is just my opinion, I make no claim to expertise.
Since WWII had ended a mere 15 years prior to my birth, it was still a very hot topic during my...
When I say Hitler was an incompetent military commander, I mean that many of his decisions were based on anger or whim rather than sound strategic purpose. A few of the many available examples-
He insisted that the invasion of Poland start in 1939, when it was in fact planned for the summer of...
Here is the winter verdant scheme. I have the plain outlines somewhere, I'll dig them up if I can, and they are in a few posts here, but you'll have to search for them.
If you have the TB, then you can figure out the colour variation you want to do from these.
Cheers
Also remember that the ridiculously punitive nature of the Treaty of Versailles virtually guaranteed WWII. Hitler happened to be a motivated and charismatic man with a plan, and showed up at just the right historical moment to make it all happen. His looniness wasn't really that evident at...
I'm in that boat with you. I love my 416, but I'd also like to have the Cdn M101. A guy near here had about 8 of them for sale several years back, but I was short of money at the time, so passed on one. (self kick, kick, kick).
I don't remember whose trailers these are, but I think they are...
From what I read about it, one main goal was to be able to easily drag it into aircraft for transport. It wasn't really designed to be suitable for rough country, and it's prime mover bears that out, being a small 4x2 tractor.
That said, it could be pulled across gentle terrain near a road...
It resembles an M348 in many ways, but appears too deep in the belly, and I can't quite make out where the rear wheel is. Any better pictures?
Cheers
Edit - after viewing the pictures in the post below, definitely NOT an M348!
Likely as not, Rommel used more than one aircraft at different times. And a model is only as good as the quality of the builder's research, and the references he trusted.
Cheers
But that means they noticed you! :)
I don't care if what I put on my trucks will make me look like a clown car, so long as I get seen. If someone points and says "Looks like a clown car", then I'm in good shape.
But common sense tells me that driving at silly slow speeds on an interstate is...
I didn't mention reflective tape. For those who don't want something permanent on a showable preserved military vehicle (which all of mine are), magnets again come into play.
I buy magnetic sheet at the hobby/craft store and stick reflective tape to it. Most of the 3M tape I have is 2" wide...
On the question of what will get stuck when the other won't, it all depends on what you are trying to cross.
There is an old Army Mobility Study video out there (youtube probably?) that shows interesting results. It takes various vehicles including M151, M37, deuce 6x6, 5-ton 6x6, 8x8...
I am a big fan of amber warning lights to the rear, day or night. Most of our vehicle moves have an M1009 with a full amber light bar as chase vehicle. (Handy as a parts getter if there is a breakdown too!).
For night moves, I also have magnetic lights for the vehicles. They are around...
