My 802 came with one installed. It's kept in the garage so I disconnected it. I use a pair of Battery Tenders to maintain the batteries.

You may need to "exercise" the reconnection switch. The contacts may be oxidized from sitting so long and not making good contact. Only exercise the switch with the set shut down.
