I'm glad you had such an easy fix. The shift lever has a fair amount of mass and a good sharp bump can cause it to drop out of high.
If you want to be sure the truck dosent have a problem, there's a few things you might want to check.
The transfer case shift rod has a spring loaded ball...
Enclosed on the sides and open on the ends would be better.
With three sides closed you might get a lot of heat build up due to swirling air. Maybe wide doors that can be open when running? They could be incorporated into the plan by using them to further channel the noise away from the...
A while back there was a thread regarding relining shoes. A member was going to give it a go.
Does anyone know what became of it? I guess I'll have to do some searching tonight.

The DOD uses 15W40 in just about everything with Diesel engines. They don't seem to have breakdown issues. Part of the reason though, is a desire to stock the fewest number of lubricants.
Onan made the engines. Shoot a call or email to their Tech Dept and see what they say.

On both generators and welders I've used tractor mufflers with good success. Any tractor supply store should have a good selection of them. They are designed for free standing applications and seem a better choice than an automotive muffler.
A large muffler, especially on a portable unit...
Follow the same precautions as for any polyurethane paint, including not having any exposed skin while sanding or shooting. A disposable Tyvek suit is cheap insurance.
Ignore the "I did it this way and I'm still alive" kind of posts. There are real hazards but they can be easily reduced to...
Propane carbs are available. I can't for the life of me remember where from though. It's been years since I had mine. Maybe a Google search? (Saturn Surplus, maybe??)
If running on propane, expect to de-rate the output by 10-15% due to the lower BTU value of propane.

Congrats, guys! You've hijacked the thread! The question was regarding JC Taylor insurance and specifically with regards to NY.
JC Taylor has, within the last month or two become more restrictive in underwriting requirements, at least in NY. JFCCAC and Alphatruck both had challenges with JC...
I use "exposed cable and gear" lube. I've got a couple of makers stuff in the shop. I'll get the maker's names off the can tomorrow.
The fleet angle, when using a tensioner, is really restrained by the rollers acting as sheaves when under load. Since they are smaller than the appropriate...
JC, I'd call the DMV first. The NY DMV website only states the vehicle has to be 25 years old to register as "Historic"
JC Taylor does NOT issue "Historical" insurance. They issue "Antique" insurance which has nothing to do with the DMV interpretation of "Historic"
My cards do not say...
1. The fleet angle becomes more critical at higher loads. A low angle will allow the cable to bear on the side of the previous wrap and lay neatly into the valley of the two wraps underneath it.
A wide angle will cause the cable to lay over a previous wrap or wander way from the previous wraps...
PM me the details. I'm 2-3 hours from Drum. I'll try to make it work out.
Since it doesn't look like it'll eat much hay, it could stay here until you can work something out to get it to GA.
The town Codes Enforcement Officer cuts me a lot of slack. He's a Viet Nam vet who has owned some MVs...
