How about this marking?
This is on an M870 trailer belonging to 1st CEB on Camp Pendleton. The neck is marked the same way, except the numbers were under the lettering. There were four trailers marked this way, the only tactical vehicles I have ever seen marked like that.
When the site...
If there is anything consistent about Marine markings, it is inconsistency!
They seem to like sandy/dusty places. My older boy did a tour in Afghanistan with 1CEB last year, his company is on a float now (13th MEU), which has ended up in the Persian Gulf region last I heard from him. He is...
We can get you infected with the OD disease pretty quick. At one time I lived in Pflugerville and had no military vehicles. Then along came the Unimog, and it just snowballed from there...
Welcome aboard!
Cheers
Nice job, and those tires look good.
I am in the process of converting one of these kits to represent one of my M931's at moment, and another with a resin cab to be my M813.
I admit to really liking miniatures of vehicles (as well as the real thing). Those Roco/Herpa HO scale models are...
Yep. I just let up on the gas and let it coast to a stop. I would never dream of taking this combo further or faster than I did, but I'm sure there are folks who would try taking it on the road (the "I can get my M105 up to 90mph behind my Mini Cooper with no problem..." crowd).
I'd love to...
Newbee, we're making the same point - the brass stencil does not make the V with legs, only the precut USMC one does.
My observations are based on my own Marine time (late 70's-late 80's), former Marine vehicles I own now with the original markings intact, vehicles in the museum on Camp...
The question - Can you tow a V100 with an M1009?
The answer - yes! (but very slowly)
This is from back on July 4th of 2012, when I was fueling up the V on the way to the July 4th parade. The V had shed its alternator belt prior to pulling into the fuel station (that shedding problem is since...
As regards the M being a V with legs - this applies only to the M in USMC. It seems that if you use the pre-cut USMC stencil, the M is the V with legs.
Repaints seem to sometimes use the brass stencil, as do a lot of MTVR's.
The M12345 RUC marking is unit applied using brass stencils, so...
The Armadillo is indeed a cool looking vehicle. It came about when the US refused to supply them with any more V100s because of some perceived annoyance, so they built their own version.
The attached picture shows the hatch closed, you can see the attached almost-vertical piece.
Also one with...
Having done the Austin-Phoenix trip twice now in an M915, I have a good idea of what you are in for. Not too bad, really, the 915 is a great truck. Ride is a bit rough on the passenger though, my buddy Charlie who went to Phoenix with me the first trip did NOT volunteer to go the second time...
The T-looking things are the open gunner's-hatch doors. Each side of the hatch door has a vertical plate attached: when opened, the vertical piece hits the edge of the ring and holds the hatch door at roughly a 45 degree angle. Makes a decent little bullet trap to protect the gunners sides...
I drove agazza2's rig out to Arizona for him last week, loaded with his household stuff.
As usual, the M915 drove like a champ. I limited the speed to 55mph because of the trailer. It is nice traveling at that speed, you get to see the scenery.
The picture is in Texas Canyon AZ, an...
Also a very late response - insuring through Continental Western. Way more coverage at a fraction of what State Farm was charging.
Swat435, love to see some details of your Dragoon if you can do a thread (opsec taken into consideration).
Cheers
31x10.50 is the stock size tire that came on those trucks, so width should not be the issue unless someone swapped Hoplite's wheels for skinny ones. He is going slightly taller not wider.
A buddy ran 33x10.50's on his 1009 for years, as his daily driver, with no problems, and I'm running...
