Acmat VLRA.
Very cool, and capable, trucks. The former Irish ones, being the only right-hand-drive units built (as far as I know) are popular in Britain with collectors. There are quite a few in collector hands in Ireland also, including a four-door cab.
There are short and long wheelbase...
George, Jason (above post) is probably who your buddy was thinking of, he is up on Hwy 183 a few miles north of Seward Junction, right on the side of the highway. A great guy, and well worth meeting. My place is off the beaten track, and few actually know where. ( :) )
Danny will hook you up...
Gunny, the only problem with using the model paint is that it seems to have a VERY short lifespan in the sun before it fades out. Being a model builder myself, I used some Testors on my Unimog markings, they lasted only about two weeks in the sun before bleaching out badly. You might want to...
There was another thread on this video a few months ago, I haven't a clue what the title was. As I recall, it was not military. Cool thing to have though. Not many frozen rivers around here to play on.... :(
Cheers
Welcome aboard, George. My location says Austin, but my place is actually in the boonies near Liberty Hill (which few have ever heard of, but most know where Austin is).
As Warthog mentioned, we have a very active local club, Lonestar MVPA. Meets in the museum on Camp Mabry on the third...
I do think we should have some quick and obvious way of identifying SS folk. I have enjoyed meeting several folks at past events, but probably met others without knowing it. I'm pretty sure it was Papabear and company we exchanged frustrated but amused parking advice with one morning in 2012...
Since its incurable, I should probably be treated with regular new MV doses, rather than haphazard self medication I've been administering.
But we digress, and thread hijack...

Not a museum, I just don't know when a sensible man would stop! Perhaps poor impulse control? (That doesn't work as an excuse when you plan ahead though, does it..). My neighbour (Sarge) is just as bad, he has more stuff than me.
Baseballump, I've added a few since you last visited, and...
In addition to what Jason said, the V100 in its original configuration is amphibious, propelled/steered in the water by its own wheels, speed around 3-5mph in calm waters. There are a couple of other V restoration threads, in that section of the forums, which show the original configuration...
I have a 3/4" 24v impact tool that I find quite handy. It is not a replacement for air tools or cheater bars, but a useful supplement in many situations.
I particularly like it when it is 108*+ degrees outside, and I have a couple of tires to change or whatever. I'm not a young man anymore...
The M809 series which had super singles in service have speedometers to match. Mine is a Marine truck in stock configuration (with 14.00s) and the speedo reads correctly. Same goes for 939 series trucks.
I don't really understand the "bugout" thing, but would think that perhaps the simpler...
Glad we have more months, there are a LOT of superb vehicles of all shapes and sizes on this site, its very difficult to pick just one!
HellonwheelsV100's restoration of Proud Mary is a shining example.
Cheers
PS Changed the "after" picture, the site upload software butchered the first one!
Being 'chicken' in instances such as these is often very wise! Chickens aren't cowards, they just have an extremely well developed sense of discretion....

GE is right. The lines becoming sponges/cracking is the most common cause of this, and it is a very common problem with CUCV's. Follow all the lines carefully, there are some short little ones in hidden spaces, easily missed. A $2 fix that yields big results!
Cheers
