I bought the motor from the same surplus shop where I got the lawn tractor transaxle, wheels and directional control switch. If I were REALLY ambitious, it would have been hydrostatic.
I didn't need it to go fast, 500 watts is a bit over 1/2 HP so I ran numbers looking at a walking pace, gear ratio torque multiplication and percent grade it would need to climb at 1200 pounds. And bam, there it was.
Yes, it really needs a speed controller if the motor was any more powerful...
Every step fought us. New radiator, engine oil cooler lines needed modification to short ferrule beadlock. Then transmission cooler lines were stripped and I couldn't make a double flare. So we ended up putting an external transmission cooler on the 1009. Once all the lines were installed...
These are called Beadlock fittings, used in mobile air conditioning. There are TWO lengths of ferrule, short and long. These are the #8 beadlock fittings.
Yes, you can make a short out of a long.
Ran into this problem with my boy's 1009.
With bent pushrods, valve lash is way off. Pull the valve covers and compare. Besides, you have to pull each pushrods to swap the camshaft. That and the tappets. Just roll them on a flat plate.
Aluminum blocks and overheating? Yeah, just had the same thing on a Scag Turf Tiger with a horizontal shaft Kohler. The head bolts could be removed without any wrenches. Aluminum expands 3X as much as steel with temperature so the block stretches the bolts.
Now, another cheap and easy method...
The cam change shouldn't require timing adjustment since it is precision machined. But if th old cam was worn significantly and a new pump timed to it, then you might have an issue with a new cam. It would cause timing to be advanced. I would put a dial indicator on the injection pump pad...
13.6 amps you say? You are confusing current with voltage. My charger is a 2/10 amp selectable with an ammeter gauge. So it would be a constant voltage charger...
lead sulfuric acid batteries have plates made of lead and lead oxide. The positive plate (cathode) is lead oxide, the anode is...
Last weekend was the monthly load test on m 002A and I was demonstrating it to a friend. Would not start as batteries were a tad low. And I always disconnect the ground lug on the low battery. I charged them for 24 hours at 2 amps and it started.
these are BCI 51R type. Since I did some...
A redesign would be needed. My mobile MEP 02A was designed to fit through a narrow gate, 34" or so. Which means it isn't too stable. Front chicom tires are rotted after 4 years in a shed. Backs are Carslie so they should last for at least 10.
like I said, top speed is a sedate 3 mph. More...
Almost ready to fire it up. The radiator is a bit clogged so we are waiting for the brown Santa to deliver the new one. Got the IP gears installed, double checked crank to cam timing and installed the chain gear cover. Buttoned up the water pump and new bypass hose. The torsional damper was...
A GV OD loses out in the torque converter slip. Best is manual OD. 4L80E offers lockup torque converter but there still is a good bit of loss off the pump.
you only gain a trifle economy by going to a lower cruise engine speed. Overdrive just lets you go faster where drag increases as the...

I would rule out the head gasket as if leaking, coolant could migrate to cylinders, then out the ports and to the air box slobber tube.
Mine is self portable. 500 watt 24 volt DC motor driving a 2 speed riding mower transaxle and front steering axle with a draw-steer bar and directional control switch. All surplus gear I fabricated, welded and bolted together. Even got the reduction ratio about right. Low gear climbs the...
My 002A came with a new engine, I went to change the oil and balls of grease came out. The grease was clean GAA in appearance. It is used to hold the governor balls in place during assembly. It also has the Onan tag on it for the re-engine contract.
I had had to overhaul the fuel tank and...
Interesting. I was under the impression it seals the delivery valve to the plunger housing. But if the d valve is lapped to the head, it should seal.
could it be your spacer is stuck in the head?
Is Locktite 518 the correct sealant for the timing chain cover? It looks about right, TM calls for anaerobic sealant. And looks like the oil pan front is RTV.
The good news is the new sprockets and chain are installed. The old set had over 7/8" of slop, the new one less than 3/16"...
