Recommended mechanic to change timing chain on 6.2i would do it if I had the time

Pretty sure the crank is fine, I have been using the damper bolt to set e injection pump gears in time, no play or roughness in either direction. The engine has a new damper installed two years and 12 k miles ago, the new damper is an Australian made unit from the Irish parts store. So it has...

Recommended mechanic to change timing chain on 6.2i would do it if I had the time

Just peered in on the timing chain through injection pump gears, it is very loose on the sprockets. So I am convinced of the problem.

    Harmonic balancer Questions

Again, the STEERING WHEEL and pulley puller worked fine. This time, it is the timing chain that needs renewal. This task is the easiest on the list, thanks to the puller. i have two, one I use daily for flywheel pulling, older Kohler Courage and current Briggs and Stratton flywheels come...

Recommended mechanic to change timing chain on 6.2i would do it if I had the time

Noise is recently developed and quite loud. Compared to my M1031, it is disturbing. We got it down to pulling the coolant pump tonight. I have to search for a local source of timing gears and chain. I am certain of the issue.

Recommended mechanic to change timing chain on 6.2i would do it if I had the time

The boy's M1009 with 71k on the odometer developed a slack timing chain noise yesterday, it only happens at idle. anyone have a recommended mechanic in the central Texas area? New Braunfels to Boerne, north of San Antonio. Don't want to go more than 50 miles. I would do it if I had the time...

    New Wheel Cylinder Issues

Bingo. Same issue with M35A2 mil spec wheel cylinders. The UP45 rebuild kits from NAPA have expander springs and seal much better. Another issue is the master cylinder venting. If the vent or check valve clogs and a partial vacuum develops, the wheel cylinders can leak. Finally, installing a...

Mep generators vs low sulfur fuel

Fresh fuel is more important, these are injection pumps lubed by engine oil on the cam surfaces and distributor gear. Little lubrication demands on the fuel side. Other distributor type Bosch pumps have cam surfaces lubed by diesel, these have more issues using ULSD.

    4A032 Carburetor Issue

The carb is a military version of the Zenith 13260. I have found parts kits and a brass float NOS which should work. The issue I have with mine is the float valve seat. I made one from a Viton o ring but it doesn't last with ethanol fuel. The fix is to run 100 LL aviation gasoline but at $5...

    Locking air chuck suggestions?

Always use a clip on chuck when inflating from nothing. The best are the thread on types but I don't have a handy source at this moment. Yes, a regulator will slow it down but it makes it automatic. Just set it and hide in your bunker with air conditioning and sweet ice tea.

    Tank filling

This is a real issue, I can squeeze in two gallons from initial handle trip to when diesel is visible. The filler neck hose is tapered and the tanks have vent lines. The foam doesn't flow as easily through the vent line and it causes foam to rise in the neck. Eventually the vent line purges...

    Tank filling

ULSD foams like shaving soap. But the foam breaks down fast. Fill

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

The drain valve on the air box can be fickle. It probably needed blowing out from dust and the like. Since you know the cooling system is holding pressure, monitor the air box drain. You probably raised a bunch of dust from 45 years that knocked loose. never run without a thermostat. It...

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

I would suspect the engine ingested a bunch of coolant vapor when the belts failed, this accumulated in the air box and it just needs to drain over time as the leak down function only functions when the air box has no pressure..with the engine off.

    Washing 003a

These units were designed to run in a jungle during a monsoon. They will be FINE if the windings are wet, the windings are varnished after assembly, then baked and high pot tested against voltage leakage. The weakest components, other than the generator bearing, are the gauges and switches on...

    Washing 003a

They are brushless, solid state, sealed units. Learn where the generator bearing is and never pressure wash that. Also, don't pressure wash wires, they are flame resistant, nylon covered, glass fiber textile wrapped aviation type wire. The rest is fine. But watch out for air filter and...

Another electrical question - MEP8XX running welder

The 48 amp draw is only for a brief period. At 225 amp output and ~30 volt arc, that is 6750 watts, at 240 volts that is 28 amps. my Miller Dynasty 200 DX also has a 12 gauge power cord but that is 3 phase. The manual specifically states the power cord limits output in single phase especially...

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

Yes, he has lights. Plus the ones out of my SECM, when I get time. The Goat has lots of room under the bonnet but so does a CUCV and doing all belts on that can be a chore.

    Alternator question

The most likely issue is a burned out alternator light bulb. And that diagram is not correct because the sense wire should be connected to the battery. Very little current goes through the sense wire so the voltage on either end should be the same. But when the alternator is cranking out the...

    MEP-003a fuel issue
