Interesting thread...
As stated, tire choice is big. Under the right conditions (or wrong conditions) NDCCs will get stuck on wet grass, let alone snow. They can get you off a hard surface road and out into deep snow but will likely not get you moving again. Old worn tires gaurentee that...
Riddle me this, Batman....
I've got an M35A2 with a condition that concerns me.
When the clutch is let out in a forward gear, the shift lever jumps to the right about 3/4 to 7/8". It does it the same whether it's in high or low transfer and in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear. I didn't check 4th or...
I use 12 ton jack stands because they let me work on the brakes, bearings etc at waist height or higher. It's a lot better for my back.
I buy them on sale at the local Parts Plus for around $50, or a little more, a pair.
Merry Christmas to all!

Can someone who has access to an M818 please measure the length of the frame behind the tool box and spare to the end of the frame? Also, the rough distance from the Tool box and Spare to the front axle center line.
It would help me to plan for a possible M818 bob job.
Thanks

If you don't mind; how many hour or miles on the engine and what did it set you back?
Does anyone know of a site that might tabulate the dimensions of the Cummins engines so as to compare what will fit in place of the 250?
Thanks

My brother owns a business where I could print it and comb bind it for free. I just like the durability of the GI binding.
In the "What was I thinking?" category, I saw one at the Gilbert show, didn't buy it when I should have and now have the trailer. Oh well, live and learn (or don't learn...
My thoughts are that an M818 can be bought for less than an M813, from which I'd yank the bed anyway.
The frame may already be the right length. I'd like to have room for a spare and davit behind the cab and will need to get out a tape measure to see how it'll work. Since I already have cargo...
I've been mulling over the possibility of bobbing a 5 ton and mounting a, M105 bed or shortened standard cargo bed on it.
Has anyone done it?
A search of the current forum comes up dry. Searching on the "old" site only comes up with no results at all.
Any info or thread links would be...
Hey Ken!
We're neighbors!
I'm in Sennett and there are collectors in Elbridge, two or three Auburn, two others here in Sennett, one in Memphis etc.
Welcome to the site.

Try contacting Hobart directly.
A while ago I contacted them about a former Navy generator, circa 1942, and they copied their file manual, bound it and sent it to me free of charge.

Regarding the age; if the DLA contract # is visible on the data plates, look at the 7th and 8th characters. They are the year the contract was let to the maker. That will get you to within a year, in most cases.
The location of the contract year within the contract # is the same for any DLA...
If you want to borrow a tow bar, I'm 8 miles from I-90 Exit 40, Weedsport/Auburn.
M818s need 4 batteries. I can loan you some, if needed.
The M809 series trucks have a set of air brake glad hands behind the front bumper to allow the interconnection of two vehicles. The towing vehicles brake...
This is all good info. The glow plugs, for practical purposes, draw as a controlled dead short. Cranking a cold engine draws a lot of power, too.
Given winter temps in PA, your glow plugs could be firing for 2-3 minutes.
I suspect that your short drive is simply not long enough to replace...
I previewed them twice.
Kevin Smart, the Fort Drum GL guy, said they were transfered from Mechanicsburg. Kevin does a good and fair job with his pics, if he spots a major defect, he makes sure it shows in the pics and usually calls it out in the written description.
They were in good shape...
I don't believe weight carrying capacity had anything to do with the selection of duals. AI think a deuce with singled 9.00-20s will still carry more than it's rated weight.
One of the advantages claimed by the Army for a dual wheeled truck was the ability to sustain 5 flats (if the spare is...
6x8' sounds a lot more like an M416 1/4 ton trailer canvas.
The bed of an M101 is over 8" long, add the height needed for the sides and it'd be more like 14x16' or, maybe, 13x15'
